Hi All, I just got an Evo Powerboard 800W, the one with the front and rear suspension etc. It needs some TLC anyway, but what mods can I do? Is there a relay that gives 1000w power or something? What about putting a 1000W motor on it? Any other mods? Lets start cheap though.... till i know what I am doing, I am used to Modding Diesel VW's!

Any help appreciated.

If you don't know what your doing, the first mod is reading.
Is it brushless or brushed? What batteries are in it.....what do you consider cheap?
Im a veeDub head too :p

Hi Sean, thanks for that. I have just spent the last week or so fixing bits (brake cutout wires) that are broken and replacing rusty bolts etc. So at least its presentable.

I have been reading and it seems an easy first thing to do is raise the deck and add bigger batteries. I have 3 x 12v 12ah SLA's in there. For now I can raise the deck by 15-20mm and fit 4x 12v 10ah SLA's in for 70 quid its a no brainer. Has anyone done this and kept the plastic deck? Anyway I think my batteries are a bit shot because the charge indicator is constantly red with the new throttle I have fitted, the old one used to show up green. The shop said it would work fine, so they are the experts, so constant red light = shot I would assume.

I am thinking of going down the line of a hub motor, Not sure what the difference between brushed or brushless, gerared or DD is TBH. Some people say go for one others say go for another. I feel like its Potatoes-Potatoes if you know what I mean. The other thought is will the 1000w motor be a direct replacement for my 800w one? If it will fit I could look for a 2nd hand one for now while I gather the bits for a hub motor?

Controllers, will a 36v one be ok with 48V?

What are the biggest wheels that will fit on the Evo with a front mudguard? Anyone know?

Anh does anyone know where I can get a pannier from? I cant find one anywhere.

Hi, you should update your profile so we know what part of the world you are in... :)

I wish you had mentioned in your first post, what you wanted to accomplish with your "mods"...? You don't mention your local terrain (hilly, flat, etc...). You don't mention your desired distance to travel. You don't mention how much you weigh...? You don't mention if you want speed, torque, reliability, or daily commuter.

I've had a few of these, and they are a "neat little ride" for the neighborhood.

Depending on your "needs & budget", I would recommend just getting better batteries than SLA's. You could go for Lipo, Lithium, or a LifePo4 battery depending on your skill level. SLA's are heavy, and are reducing your travel distance if that's an issue. I would pick up a second charger as they tend to unexpectedly die. You could use the 2nd one on your scooter for charging on the road/office/school.

I didn't see a huge difference from changing the motor from 800w to 1000watts, but if the motor dies, than you could contemplate it... (might need another controller etc....)

A volt meter, or a Watts meter are good/important tools to have.

Keep your money for a "battery upgrade", and left over money to keep the tires, brakes, repairs, and maintenance up to date.

I hope this helps, IAN...

I am from the UK, profile updated now! Cheers.

This isnt really a daily commuter, I guess I am after performance and economy, the best of both. It is only really for fun and the odd trip when I need to leave the car at a garage etc. Maybe pop to a local shop, I am not sure to be honest, I am just playing really. Though now the guys at work have got wind of these and my brother and his mates, I suspect there will be an element of competition now.

I live about 19 miles from work, so probably wouldnt ever get that mileage weighing 10.5stone/72kg. I would probably use roads pavements etc, not many traffic police to worry about round here, and there are some hills etc, but what goes up must come down. Its not mountainous.

I would like a hubmotor, honhismotor is quoting $210 delivered to the uk for a hubmotor and controller not sure if this is good. I need to clarify specs really.

The lithium polymer cells are scarily expensive, and they can die easily I almost feel like its best to stick to SLA for reliability. Are lithium any benefit over SLA, like the polymer ones?

specifications of your actual controller and motor would help. (one of the question is what is limiting the power, can't remember the discharge rate of SLA but on my evo scooter, the original Litium battery was not discharging enought amp to stress the dowstream components at higher power than specified)
