I have been wondering for a few weeks now the differences in efficiency between using a geared hub motor or similarly powered single reduction mid motor ( not going through the detailer )

If using 1000 Watts.. And both the mid motor and hub geared motor have a 6:1 reduction.. How do they compare in terms of friction?? ( Tensioned belt from mid mounted innruner vs. greased plastic IPG setup )

Obviously the winding and Kv of the Will have an impact but I'm really curious about the innate
difference between the belt and the planetary gear in terms of friction

I like the idea of a GNG style inrunner mounted in the frame running a tensioner belt straight to the rear wheel.. possibly left side as has been discussed here before.

I also recognize the beauty in simplicity of hub motors.

And what about running 2000 or 3000 W.. Does the belt drive system have an advantage in durability? I know geared hub motors reach their limit in reluable power a lot lower because the planetary gear sets fail.

What do you guys think?
