I just bought a sun ez sport AX recumbent and want to put an electric motor kit on it. I want the motor for assist on hills and while riding so being able to pedal while it is working is important. I have heard by some that some kits such as the cyclone aren't really geared for you to be able to pedal (realisticaly) with it. Meaning motor is not near its peak efficiency. Is there any easy way around this, other kits that work better? Would I be better suited with a hub motor instead of geared? This bike has 27 speeds and an aluminum frame (no front hub motor allowed). Id also like to be able to get ~20mi little assistance at ~20mph per charge. Any suggestions?

I've been using a system similar to the much more elaborate one Keplar has here. Problem is I hate hate hate hate the bike and it won't work on the bikes I own and love to ride.

I'm using a much poorer put together one on a cruzbike recumbent since it is front wheel drive I don't have the option of middrive.
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=16993 I'm going to use the bike to test some other concepts because it is probably going to just end up scraped and parted out but the drive itself does work very nicely for giving me help on hills and not even being there except mostly the weight of the battery when I'm not using it.

Here is a recent creation a middrive trike someone put together which might fit in between the top and lower tube under the seat? I don't know how well it will work with alot of gear though unless you really are careful with slack and makeing sure you pedal when it is on.

Here is one I'm trying to sort of copy right now but I decided to put a tandem crank on since I needed a new one anyhow. I picked one up for about 145 with a new bb included so they aren't too expensive.
