Hi,

As a requirement set out by the UK Government / MSVA for any converted Moped/Motorcycle the brake levers must have a ball end and oil reservoir. I also need it to have the eBike brake function to obviously brake. Here's the image of one.

The only ones I know that are available are the Tektro Dorado HD-E710 or Magura MT5e Disc Brake. All of these are out of stock, or some are selling for high prices and aren't available by any dealers that I can find online.

Or do I get something like this (Regular Motorcycle levers) from Ali Express and modify it? But I'm not exactly sure on the best way to tackle this task or whether or not it will be possible, which is why I'm here for suggestions.

I know they sell the magnet e-brake stuff, but I don't think sticking a magnet on the levers will pass and matter of fact fail. If anyone has any suggestions let me know, thanks.

I donno.

What is the possibility of getting a used scooter and converting it to electric?

Smaller scooters have motors that double as their swing arm. The entire motor + transmission + swing arm is one unit and forms the rear suspension.

QS Motors sells a mid-motor with integrated swing arm.

I know in the USA it's common for people to make 'outlaw' upgrades to their 50cc chinese scooters by swapping out the rear 50cc swingarm/engine assembly for a 150cc Gy6-style motor.

All they really do is create/buy a braket to convert the 50cc mount to a 150cc mount. Fabricating a similar mount for the QS motor doesn't look like it would require high precision or anything like that.

I have zero clue what the laws are in the UK for creating modified vehicles, but in a technical sense this is something that should be easy to accomplish safely.

With this setup it solves your problem of the brakes, at least, because you can just plumb into the wiring for the brake lights.

Hi,
Yes, I'm American - so good luck to you all things considered.
Why worry, who's going to check your equipment, and if so, what?
A 'ticket' these days? Usually a well written letter, signed, to the judge will help if not clear the problem.

However:
You do not reference a requirement for 'eBike' wiring to shut down the motor.
The magnet switches work very well and are not required, by your gov. regulation, from what I deduce are an upgrade.
Good Luck
Mike
