My Hubmotors arrived..Build log

63mm motors with more torque and 10S/12S voltage would be awesome using 90mm/97mm wheels... I may even want 4wd!!

I wonder how well the motors will do though when I hit potholes on my daily route.

I think the aluminum covers are better too.

Wow it looks like you got a good set of keggels. There is hardly any wobble in that video. Perhaps, I am the only one with a bad set. I should have just kept my mouth shut when he asked who wants the purple set... :eek: I would much rather have a sett of working keggels than go down the road of trying to pour my own. Did you test this with a VESC? If so can you post your BLDC parameters.

I haven't tested with the VESC just yet. I was using my other ESCs.

Looks nice though. I want me a 4WD now but with 63mm hub motors :) on 90mm wheels 78a.

It was decent for a second the other motor was having issues with the magnets getting stuck on one side. The bearing/cap fixes this issue. I reseated it a few times and it seemed to be fine after that which is a relief.

Had one of the wires beat up and cut up a bit from shipping though.

Just waiting on the adapters.
 
The plates are threaded. Is that a good idea? I'd have thought just threading the can would be better and allow us to pull the rubber tight. As it is now u have to press the cap into place and hold it there while screwing them on otherwise they won't tighten all the way

Maybe glue the aluminum shaft to a truck axle that's removable. Would solve the danger of de wheeling while braking. If the aluminum shaft were fatter then fatter bearings would be a help and also they could slip over the screw on axle. And there'd be more room for wire slots. Bearings might slip over a screw on axle already. Don't have one

When u guys say ur reseating the caps it sounds like ur repositioning it so the screws would have to take all the weight of a rider. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. That sounds like a quick fix that won't last. New plates should solve it.

Hey Hummina,

I don't think those polate screws are tapped, I just think that they are undersized and when you put the screw in it sort of threads it on the way in. However, this is a bad thing as 2 threaded items face to face will never tighten. I ran a slightly larger drill through mine to make it a tight through hole. Maybe that could be your problem. If yours are that tight then there is no wiggle room in the cap, and the screw orientation will set the concentricity of the bearing. However it still may not matter as the relation to the motor can ID and the cap boss is too loose. metal caps with a .002" tolerance between the two would be ideal. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to any CNC machines at work. Just a nice 3D printer for prototyping, but printed caps wont work due to the heat. I can design new caps and anything we need, but we would all have to all chip in to get them made. If needed I am open to go that route, but lets see what Jacob comes up with.

Yoor method for helping with the dewheeling would work well if we used 10mm shafts on Surf-rodz trucks. they have a 10mm axle version with removable axles and then they can be pinned with rolled pins for even more security. I have another idea that may work, but it wont work with our current design.

I finally spoke to the guy at Surf-Rodz. What great group of people. We chatted for a long time. I was going to buy their DH38 board with my truck order, but as fate woudl have it, I am 5 buildings away from Loaded and I met the guys there and I can get a crazy deal on a deck and 2 wheels to replace my Keggels that are not machined well. I plan to hold off on the keggels until I see what Jacob sends me, but will likely walk over and buy my deck next week.

The 63mm motor bearings are much bigger and have lots of room for wires!
The bearings are 17x30!

The CF caps just didn't work so new alloy caps are on there way!

The adapters are finished every one in the us are getting there adapters send to addicted2clims and then he can send them on! I'll also send him some wheels!

I really need to get the mould for the wheels up and running!

All the suggestions are great guys it's why we are here!

Whoo hoo.. That looks great. I just ran down to Loaded 5 minutes ago and picked up an Overland fully built as an around the neighborhood board and a Tesseract deck as my Hub motor conversion. My VESC's are in the mail on their way to me and I am buying my Wii adapter online today. That should be all I need to get this darn thing going. Oh and the Abec Wheels you sent me that for some reason went back to you... Get those back out as I will be jonesing to finish this thing.
