Need help replacing hub motor rim

Hello my friend bend really bad my rim with the Mxus 3k turbo (idk what version) and I don’t know what I need to replace it. Tried searching for replacement rim because my local bike shops can’t find one and told me to find one and they will replace it. The only one I found is mtx but it’s very expensive with shipping and it’s not worth it. Can somebody tell me what rim I need what spokes and everything because I am just lost.It need to be 27.5 and the parts can be ship to Bulgaria. Hear is a photo on my old rim

Photos will not show up for a brand new user. You have to describe it better in words. How many spokes (I presume 36 because of mxus 3k, but pls confirm), what width / gauge they are (or more importantly the nipples), what internal width is the original 27.5 rim.

If the spoke holes are of regular size (4mm), maybe more options, if large and you would like to replace with same type spokes ( or perhaps even reuse if you are really really tight on budget), then you have to find a larger hole rim, or the one without any extra eyelet reinforcement and drill them out to fit thicker nipples. Maybe someone from Europe can comment on availability and import costs.

When I had to replace a 12 gauge hole rim of a cheap 1kw dd motor wheel fee years ago, I bought a replacement rim off of CSC AliExpress shop and it worked (but I'm based in the US). Nowadays I just use regular bike rims and 13/14g spokes.

I live in the Euro Zone and have bought from supplier below many times and they have a large selection. They also deliver to Bulgaria and supply spokes. The Ryde Andra rim below is considered a good rim . Have you rim brakes or disk?. How many spoke holes? Valve type? (Valve hole sometimes needs to be widened)
The spoke holes are sometimes too narrow for the heavier gauge ebike spokes nipples and I have often needed to slightly enlarged the holes at the spoke angle (not usual possible with eyelet rims) if using the original heavy spokes.. If you are lucky to get a suitable replacement rim the same size as the original, you can often get away without replacing the spokes.

You need to be able to take accurate measurements in order to determine the correct spoke lengths. Spokes are very expensive, so triple checking all of your measurements. You should also measure the rim ERD yourself, even if the manufacturer lists the measurement, since errors will be costly.

Here is a shortcut to calculate the approximate spoke length in your case. (Make sure existing spokes were a proper fit in the first place)
With ideally a vernier calipers (or improvise) and tyre removed, measure the rim depth as shown in picture below. Now, if you can purchase a replacement rim of same rim depth, then you can either use existing spokes or purchase spokes of same length. If you purchase a rim of greater rim depth, then your spokes need to be shorter by the difference between your old and your new rim depth. If your new rim depth is less, add the difference to your spoke length. (You need to Google 'How to measure spoke length')
Example below picture has rim depth of 19.5 mm. It would be useful if you could give all the measurements of your rim, as below, including the number of spoke holes, whether disk or rim brakes and the colour, and any other feature (e.g tubeless) as it may be possible to find an equivalent rim.

Actually, how expensive is expensive for you? To me many of the rims from that bike24 page Sturmey listed look ok and affordable.

I would personally probably start with a rim search, since it's a bulky item, expensive to ship from afar etc. I would choose some double walled rim that's affordable for you and has the right width for your preferred tires, and ideally has wider spoke holes for the 2.5mm spokes. Alternatively, a rim with regular holes but no eyelet inserts such that you can either get a reducer nipple (or even 13/14 sapim strong with regular nipple if motor holes are small enough) or be able to drill them out for a 2.5mm spoke.

And only after I get a rim, I would start worrying about spokes. I concur with what others said about spoke length, I had some experience with getting incorrect length estimates too, so be sure to double check

That specific one has ring inserts which in my opinion make it very difficult to widen the holes.

So you would need to make sure then you can commit to standard size nipple, so look up how much spokes with such nipples normally cost in your region.

But there are others on that page for ex. ryde andra that Sturmey pointed out, but also some dt swiss that don't have that thing.

Recommend some I just don’t know what to look in a rim. Went to some bike shops and they told me just to find a new rim and they will replace it but I never expected to be that deep to find the right rim

If you can find the right sizes. I used Sapim E-Strong Single Butted spokes and nipples and a Halo SAS rim, so it was a little under $200 for the combo. I was lucky that the left and right side spokes calculated to less than a millimeter difference, so I was able to order the same length for both sides.

No, you need to measure both the motor and rim. I wouldn't order spokes until you have the motor and rim, so you can take the measurements.

I wouldn't lace more than single cross. If I had it to do again, I would go with straight 14 gauge spokes with washers; lesson learned.

Well, I think in a €30-40 price range that rim that was suggested in post #3, Ryde Andra 40, is the best bet.

It just gives you more options for spoke gauges than the u663.
Either rim is unlikely to match your previous spoke length, so prepare for spoke replacement costs. If your bike shop can handle spoke procurement and fitment, then nothing to worry about besides just giving them that rim.

Although Bike 24 has a large selection of 27.5 rim, if you apply the 36 hole filter, there are only 3 rims listed. I guess 36 hole is not that common at 27.5 wheel size. Anyhow the rim I recommended below at 21mm depth will need spokes 6mm longer than your existing spokes if your old rim is 27mm depth. The widths are not far off your old rim. This a a strong and heavy rim. The measurements are below.

yeah the only way to keep the original spokes is to get mtx wheel. Saw that the rim you recommend,the holes are not straight but my old one is straight it’s not going to be a problem right

Nevermind, I think now any rim would work. U663 is fine. Based on E-HP post, your motor would work just fine with 13/14g spokes which have regular nipples.

I think their filter is crooked. For u663, a choice of 36h is available in a menu there...

Nevermind, I think now any rim would work. U663 is fine. Based on E-HP post, your motor would work just fine with 13/14g spokes which have regular nipples.

I think you have to read those threads that E-HP just posted. And maybe previous posts in this thread too. Watch videos etc. As far as spoke choice, nipple should be as in 14g standard spoke, actual spoke can be 13/14g (thick on the motor side), or 14g with a washer as E-HP says, I haven't tried that one but perhaps if sapim strong too expensive for you. Anyway you have to just take your time to check out all the info given here....
