New Bafang Crank-Drives

For those searching for a full suspension bike for the Bafang...
Search for "Jamis" on this thread. It's a full suspension bike that fits the Bafang and tube battery. I strapped another huge battery on the top tube for very long trips, but usually don't need that top battery for commuting to work.

The XL santa cruz blurr may work. I can fit 16ah of LIPO in the triangle of my medium frame.

Anybody know offhand , or could measure, the Q-factor of the BBS kit. Is it less for the BBS01 compared to BBS02?

Don't quote me on it but I think it is the same.

...and do you know what that measurement is?

Unfortunately the print does not show the crank arms in place. I image however with a spindle length of 159mm that the q-factor is going to be over 200mm. That's quite wide.

Just measured my BBS02 - 188mm. That's only 3mm more than my Trek FX 7.5 hybrid.

Nobody answered my question so I'll post again. Where's the best place to buy a bbs02, I'm getting different prices from online stores, like by hundreds of dollars, leaving me confused.

Best seems to be really subjective. I think the vendors who are actually located in North America are the ones that have the list prices for the motors higher than overseas. The ones from China are listed low, but as soon as you're ready to check out you see that $100+ shipping which brings it up close to what's available here.

If you're the type of person to send something back to the vendor when you have problems, you may want to purchase from a North American vendor.

Exactly. Buying from a China-based vendor is likely initially less expensive, even with shipping, but if you have problems, sending stuff back and forth over the Pacific can get expensive and time consuming.

I bought mine from EM3ev because of the low cost on the one hand, and Paul's reputation for good service on the other. And indeed, he has been very responsive and helpful with my questions and concerns via e-mail. But if the level of service you expect involves things like phone support without overseas charges, or 2-day shipping of replacement parts without the shipping costing more than the parts, then it might be better to pay the premium for a more local vendor.

Since this board has an international presence, it's often easier to address questions like this when we know where you are. Maybe you're in China, in which case buying from a North American vendor is probably not the best option regardless!

Of course depending on where you live: But as already mentioned numerous times before i think Em3ev (http://em3ev.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=45) is indeed one of the better and trustworthy suppliers. You can buy at Chinese prices, but with a very good customer response. As wel Moon as Paul speak and write fluently in English (as far as i know English is Pauls mother tongue  ) They are very responsive, and if something gets delayed (eg: delay at the customs, which unfortunately sometimes happens at seemingly random occasions with everything that leaves China) they will promptly inform you and search for a solution or in some cases they will even compensate you in one or another way. I ordered myself a BBSO2 750W with a 21,5 AH battery and am very pleased with there service.

I bought one complete kit from EM3ev, the only China source I'll use for a complete kit including downtube battery. A problem with the display was replaced in 5 days. The other kit from Lectriccycles, LeGrand has EDIT SUCKED at responding. The EM3ev programing has no throttle lag and is a 2 MPH faster bike, they are identical bikes. That will soon be sorted with my programming cable.

4 months later I'm confident I can handle nearly any problem with Paul, but I have two bikes for a backup ride. If I had the extra cash, was relying on a single bike and was concerned about quick turn around and repair I'd buy the motor from LC again. But I'd stick with EM3ev for a higher Ah battery for the money.

Idid buy $35 in parts from greenbikekit to see how they responded. It worked out, the parts came, but with old style lock rings and slower than EM3ev.

I stopped buying from paul since he didn't help me fix my broken mac motor.

Actually he is ignoring me and I contacted him few times already. My mac is not working since a year now...

I have an unusual question for you BBS-0X experts:

How tight should the crank be? Is there supposed to be a significant resistance or should it spin easily in the bottom bracket shaft?
When you are pedaling with no power, are you spinning the gears and motor within the housing even if you are not powered up?

I also discovered that there is a case stamp for the 25A revision motors as you can see from the photo below:

Details or explanation? He has never ignored me an has fast tracked needed parts without question. There's obviously more to the story.

Never mind, found it. Your friend "smoked" your motor and now it's Paul's fault? WOW! Reread your own thread and then try to convince me it's Paul's fault.

I too read cwah's thread on his smoked motor. It was used, abused, overvolted, rusted and loaned out to some ham fisted "friend". Certainly out of warranty. I would refuse to do business with someone like cwah since he has a such a victim's mentality.
I am sure Paul has some good stories about him!

Finally finished two BBS02 builds!

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread and for the great information in making it possible!
