New Bafang Crank-Drives

This is looking like it could be my vote for the ebike product of the year. Fully compatible with existing frames, compact, clean, affordable, enclosed... I may have to get one of these just to fool with it a bit on one of my own bikes. Wonder how the rpms match up with pedaling on the higher voltage/power units.

I have a few of the 48v 750 watt units that will be here next week

750W!! Where did you buy?

That's interesting, according to Bafang the 750W has never entered production :|

Interesting indeed. I'll play with this a bit and post impressions soon.

Interesting, I'll have to get one.
The wiring looks very beefy more than the 500W for sure, nice.
I knew they existed buy wasn't aware they had entered a full production/purchasable.

I can't help but notice that it says 48V 25A just above the 750W stamp. And 48V would be 54.6V HOC LiPO.
1365W peak battery draw?

Oh man I'v been waiting for this version... I might be getting one of this if the reliability issues are far lesser than the GNG kits.

750W would be the NCR (normal continuous rating), usually half peak.
Example the BPM can do 500W forever, but does manage sustained peaks of 1kw (Yes you can do more than this but not without MTBF sharply rising)
The 750W creeps into off-road and s-pedelec class, would have hoped for ISIS (but there might be some difficulties with the bearing design)

Either way they are on track for success :)

You can get the chain drive GNG if you're concerned about the belt issue. It doesn't do much about that weak BB it comes with though. That's what I'm worried about with the Bafang crank drive. It doesn't look like it would be as easy to bend as the GNG, but a larger diameter spindle would sure make me feel better.

I'd like to eventually get one if money, time, and wife permits to put on another DH bike. I'd like to see someone do some jumps, drops, and some general off road with it to see how it holds up first.

I'm really concerned about the GNG mounting hardware bending over time. I've seen videos of the bafang kit being disassembled and saw that non sealed bearing on the crank. seems easy to service. I like how the reductions are trough the gears. less critical on getting the alignments dead straight. Not really planning to trow big watts on this things. 1kw is sufficient for me. the bike hardware is not meaty enough for the 60v GNG kit.. As long as it's reliable enough for daily commuting.

Had some time to play with the new 750 watt this weekend. It is much more powerful than the 350 watt versions. I'm running a 13-36 cassette with a 48t chainring on a 29er bike and it maintained about 29mph with only throttle and I got going 34 mph getting after it pedaling. It feels like it can do more, but I just didn't have the gearing set up for it. With taller gearing, I'm confident that this drive system will do the 30mph under throttle and 35mph+ pedaling that I expect. The drive units that I have and will sell are configured so that the throttle operates at max power even with PAS turned off. The PAS has 3 levels of assist but is tuned down so that it generates roughly the same power as the 350w versions do to aid in shifting under load. With the throttle you can let off the power to allow smooth shifting.

That sounds nice, is the 48t chainring stock? The 350W version got a 46t chainring right? So there might be also a differenz in the transmission? What will the price for the 750W units be and are you shipping to Germany?

That's pretty quick. I may consider picking one of these up for my wife.

hmmmm same top speed with my 29er cruiser with a magic pie II on the rear on 51v.... now this will be lighter than that setup. there is a hole burning in my pocket..... so when are these available. I've seen the 48v 500w 20amps version on alibaba. I might use this as a helper motor for my Magic pie instead of a 2nd geared hub on the front.

I was pretty psyched about this drive, until I saw that 159 mm spindle length! That is over an inch longer than even a MTB triple spindle, which is already wide enough to make me feel like a bowlegged cowboy. I guess if you aren't planning to pedal these setups are OK. :-(

The BBS01 already sells at GBK:

http://www.greenbikekit.com/index.php/36v-250w-8fun-bafang-motor-bbs-01-central-driven-motor-electric-bike-kit.html

Two questions:

1. There is no throttle apparently, is this a problem?
2. Is it known in which bikes the motor can be installed? I am thinking especially in folding bikes, which could present a problem for the motor width in the fold. Even one could think about adding this motor to a Brompton?

I asked GBK to get these for me and they let me know yesterday via email they listed it at $249 plus cheap shipping. The site listed them at 249 USD.

Today they increased the price $100 and increase shipping weight. I'm pissed at them and have challenged them.

If you are going to order I'd suggest either waiting, or sending an email to sales@greenbikekit.com telling them you're cranky about the price increase. Let's put some pressure on...

Very nice. The real test will be to get some miles on one and see how the long term reliability is.

One thing I don't get though: Doesn't the motor drive the cranks too? The cranks would always be moving if the motor is running, which would be sort of a safety issue. Ideally, we'd want the chainring to move, but not the pedals. I guess with a PAS only mode, this might be OK.

lol...That's because it was under cost price and that shipping is roughly correct via EMS

You mean list price fella, I reckon cost price would be 100 less before the rebates they'll tell you don't exist.
I wish they'd put the DHL price back to us$140 for two.
Get a pallet of them while you're over there Tesla - I'd rather buy them from you!
