New Geared Hubmotor variable-regen e-braking system that still freewheels, by ChargeBike

So as the brake pads wear down, the two disks have to move closer together, otherwise part of your clamping force is lost to bending the disks. It doesn't look like either of them is on a floating mount.

The center pad is replaceable. It is basically 2 pads soldered together back to back. It is held in place by the original bolt that runs through the caliper. It fits into the pad carrier and rotation is fixed but can move freely side to side to compensate for uneven wear and equalize the hydraulic pressure across the two rotors.

You could solder spacers of increasing thickness in between the pads as they wear down. But making one of the disks floating would be a better solution.

Yep; if the center pad is 5mm thick; distance between disks needs to be 5 mm too.
If the pad wears down to 3mm thick; distance between disks needs to change to be 3 mm too.

So yes; one of the disks (at least) needs to be able to auto move closer to the other = free floating.

If not; you're wasting energy bending the braked part of the 2 disks towards each other, at best.
At worst; bending fatigue causes one of the disks to fail resulting in a fall.

In-case Justin and Alon are watching this thread; what do you think of this concept:

IMHO it's as brilliant as Freegen... except for it being 3 separate motors... and nothing more than an animation at this point..? :)

Hey everyone, we've got the final cut of the explanation video about to be released shortly as a youtube premiere so that we can do a live question and answer session afterwards for all those who are curious about this concept. That's going to start today at noon pacific time, 3pm eastern time, and 10pm europe time.

So tune in to watch that if you are interested!

Any news/updates on Freegen justin??
