I was browsing around for some new 16" tires for my mini bike (and a bent) and ran across a Maxxis 16x1.95" tire! Pump it up to 110psi with the right rim. Plus they have a 20" hookworm that does 110psi as well. Have I just missed these or are they pretty new? I have a slew on the way to give me more cush for my tush.

I used a Maxxis Hookworm 20x1.95 tire on my recumbent back in 2000,
New? Not exactly but a nice tire that you can pump up to cast iron hardness and they don't flat easily. Good to see the Hookworm is still around, good tires tend to do that.

I had never run across the 16" version. The 20" I was not familiar with, but figured it had been around for quite sometime. Probably before the 26" versions came about even.

Maybe it is just new in that QBP distributes the 16" version now. It wasn't in last years catalog that I recall. New to me at any rate

John,

I also tried the Hookworms. Wore like cast iron and never flatted, but at 60 psi they still rattled my teeth. The secret to a decent street tire it seems, is in the sidewall - should be thin and supple with high thread count. The best fatties I've ridden are Schwalbe Big Apples. Unfortunately, they are nearly twice the price of Hookworms. My other favorite is IRC Metros in 24". A damn sweet $18, low RR tire that lasted until the sidewalls cracked and eventually failed after 3 years. Sadly, no longer available in my size.
