OFF TOPIC quick and dirty hall throttle replacement???

I'm still working on getting my electric reel mower working... after trying direct drive, then chain, I've finally decided on using a 24v 100 watt motor off a razor e100 scooter with a htd 3mm timing belt for the drive system... It still spins way too fast but the rpms are better at 40 % or lower.

I'm trying to find a way to not have to have a twist or thumb throttle -- maybe have a potentiometer so I can dial it to a speed I want ??

Can I do this with a 0-5v throttle?

Yeah. Just get like a 0-5k pot, set it to where you want it, and then put it somewhere it won't get in your way.

can I rig up a throttle using a pot to replace the hall effect throttle?

Yeah. The response range will be a little funny, because it won't be going through the same voltage range as a hall throttle, but it'll work.

It's not the value, it's the way a pot progresses the voltage. A hall throttle varies from 1-4V output, a 0-5k does not. If you're not messing with it all the time, it shouldn't be a big deal.

If you want, you can put trimmer pots on the throttle + and - wires, then adjust these until it responds right.

oh, so you mean it won't be smooth like a regular throttle, it may jump...

I have hooked it up and I noticed that.

But I don't think I will be adjusting it much at all....

Yeah, it'll only advance the motor speed around the middle of it, so it's much more sensitive than a normal throttle without some fixed resistors on either side.

It does work though, I'm using something like 2k and ~1.5k resistors on a Magura with a YK42-3 (which uses hall throttles). I've got it adjusted so the last 50% of the throttle travel does stuff; that was as good as I could get it. It's definitely a little strange though.
