Poor man's ebike?

Hello, Man

You can choose a cheap and affordable bike, buy a motor drive, and then buy a battery to assemble yourself. which will save you money and make the electric bike longer.

In these few days, the person who need the same things as you. maybe i can help you find.

You might be able to find a used ebike or bike with an electric conversion.

Very helpful post - thank you for taking the time to put it together. Yes, I'm looking around for 2nd hand ebikes, though even cheap ones start well over 300€ around here. An than the battery is almost always through, which means another 150-200€ for new cells, even if assemble them myself.
Also, your post raises an interesting point about hub motors. At first I was all about mid drives, but after some reading, it seems rear hub motors offer decent traction for less money. Front hub is no option for me, because I would not be able to lift the bike over an over again. But since I ride with a 40kg (loaded) trailer half of the time, I wonder if there are decent rear hub motors out there able the handle the extra weight, which are both cheap and silent.

Everytime I see the title of this thread, I think of people using drill motors, battery mower motors, tread mill motors and the like.

Thats the ultimate poor mans ebike. On and Off no throttle.
