like a lot of cyclone users , ilike the motor.it poerforms well, but the noise...yyuuukkkk...Lucas oil ptoducts, red n tacky #2...it is thick, it is sticky and it is red ... i cleaned out the original grease, thoroughly and packed the Red in to overflow.. IT WORKED :!: this stuff reduced the audible noise level by a good 30%

ecellent, thanks! it was the noise i had read about that was discouraging me from getting a cyclone kit.
Which cyclone product was this on?

That's the grease I use to pack bearings, gearboxes, and coaster brakes in my shop. It's good stuff. For a crude and crappy gearbox that takes a beating out of proportion to its quality, I'd consider using a moly fortified grease like CV joint grease. Molybdenum disulfide is an almost miraculous extreme pressure lubricant, with its only serious drawback being that it's intensely black and staining.

CHALO,thanks...i have used Moly before would prefer it... i will check out the one you suggested...is it really thick like the Red?? i chose the Red because it is so thick and sticky.. i am assuming that the thicker the grease the better the sound dampening... cant go too thick because of our winter temps

CV joint grease isn't a brand; it's a category of grease made for automotive constant-velocity joints. It's not all that thick-- runnier than most greases, in fact.

I assume that even more effective than a thick grease's sound damping qualities would be the reduction of friction at the points of extreme high pressure contact. That should result in less noise being produced to begin with by stick-slip at the points of contact.

Chalo, what about a combination of the CV joint grease and the Red??? what would be a brand name for the CV??

Whether the greases can be mixed is a function of the soap used to thicken them. Lucas Red 'n Tacky #2 has a lithium base, so any lithium based CV joint grease should be compatible. CV joint greases all must meet very stringent temperature and lubricity specifications, so any of them will do. (Go to the auto parts store and ask for CV joint grease that comes without CV joint boots.) The container size is one joint worth, which is about 3 ounces.

FOUND THE RIGHT GREASE...it is thick black grease with a moly additive... i tried it ...very good result!!... a little better than the Red...pack the gear box FULL.. now, gears are not as noisy as an electric drill....louder when accelerating but quietens down when cruising.. unfortunately there is no brand name on the tube,,,its a house brand made foe Canadian Tire... there should be other aut supply stores that have something similar...CHALO,thanks for additional info

i find cyclone on those 500w noisy are not that bad at all. years have been running, I don't really notice them Since a Long time ago , i do hear people have felt noise from cyclone motors , Just avoid the 7teeth big motor,

hi kriskros,i use an AFT cyclone motor,it has had the grease removed and replaced with an oil bath system which drastically drops the noise levels.i also have a gearbox noise reduction cover which drops it even further.

I've 5 cyclone 500w in shed ---only the newest motor one i ride often as its motor is quite.
On 3 others 1 i replaced gears others the grease .... that gluey thick stuff ----i ve come to the conclusion the armature spline wears down is what makes the noise ..gears do wear down as one can see the wear but the spline on the motor shaft u cannot
Too noisy for me to ride . Trying to sell the they even say theyre too noisy. Try banana skins next as its what guys
did years ago to sell a car with stuffed diff or g ear box.
