looking to buy a 2000w ebike convertor kit from ali baba with a battery but im new to the website and dont know any trustworthy sellers. If anyone has purchased or knows about these kits could you please drop the link.

Any reason you're set on alibaba?

It's usually a place you go to buy hundreds or thousands of something, not just one, so not all sellers there will even talk to individuals (vs companies), even if they have listings for single items. Some of them also may require you transfer money to them via wire and perform the sale outside alibaba, which gives you no protection. There are also no enforceable warranties....

Depending on your location and requirements and budget, and any seller limitations you have, there are probably better places to get whatever you need, if you provide us with that information.

If you're set on alibaba, we'll still need to know the details of what system you actually want, what voltage and capacity of battery, etc., to help you find a kit.

Bicycle? Motorcycle? Moped? Scooter? (people's definition of "ebike" can include any or all of those, but "ebike", component-choice-wise, is really "electric bicycle" in the meaning of a bicycle-class EV, meant to be usable via pedalling and/or motor...the other things are really motor-only and not intended to be pedalled, whether or not they have any attached).

Speed required? Under what conditions?
Do you want a middrive, or a hubmotor?
Geared or DD Direct Drive hubmotor?
Do you want the bare hubmotor or one already laced in a wheel?
What size wheel? (diameter, width, axle type, dropout width, brake style, etc)
If middrive, what type? Bolt into custom-frame BB fixture? Slide into standard BB? BB width?
What features do you want the system to have? (there are many possible ways for it to work)
Do you need throttle operation? Grip? Thumb?
PAS? What type? Torque, cadence, on/off?
Assist levels?
Regen? On/off or variable?
Etc.

Ali*.* marketplace are too fluid to make any meaningful recommendation. They change too often. If I recently lucked out on some item, your experience could be totally different.

^-- yeah that's the problem. Tons of fly by night sellers on there.. the good ones open their own web stores because they're tired of paying 5-8% commission to alibaba.

Sites like these are not where reliable sellers sell things.

Chinese Seller topbikekit has an aliexpress front end and a kit centric web site. they have maintained a good rep with the uk pedelec forum users for at least the last 18 months delivering what was bought..

"Depending on your location and requirements and budget, and any seller limitations you have, there are probably better places to get whatever you need, if you provide us with that information." - I live in Brisbane Australia and my budget is around 800-1000AUD.

Ive gone onto the ebikes reddit and asked whether to go with a local bike shop, amazon or Alibaba and they recommend alibaba because of the prices. Also, numerous drop shipper small businesses have been selling these kits to customers in Australia and Im just trying to cut out the middle man part of the purchase and trying to save a couple hundred dollars (they mark them up like crazy).

And what i mean by ebike is by converting my hardtail push bike into a ebike using a ebike 'kit'. The kit includes a controller, grip throttle, the backwheel with the 'motor, but no battery as it has the be bought seperatly

that is the link i was looking at it and Im pretty set on the 2000w 52v option. its 261 AUD with shipping meaning im going to budget $500 for the battery (wheel option is irrelevant to me at the moment as I will find a new push bike to make my bike project on).

Based on these specs, the top speed of this bike will be around 70kmh , not including pedal assist, and Im not too sure about the torque or all that.

The battery part is what im most concerned about and probably the main reason for this post because I dont want to cheap out on a battery that will just explode or break down. Im just looking for a reliable seller that sells a battery that is compatible with the motor I will be getting.

(yes this is completely legal as I have my licence and this will strictly be only for private property)

I do not agree that 'Ali*' is unreliable, mostly though because I don't agree you will not find long term sellers. You can find those, in fact you should find those.

My issue is that I don't know a lot of them in relation to electronic stuff as I haven't really been buying that as of now. I did buy myself a bike light recently..

No I didn't link the light, Iinked the store on purpose. Factory outlet, on Ali* .. YouTube is filled with reviews of their products, you might even find some ( 800% markup ) in your local store.

For generic 'bike stuff', how about

Shops exists since 2018, has 1800+ reviews. Will you never have any issues... not saying that. I ordered some grips from there, I got small hands for an adult so when I see choice 'large' and 'small' I assume small is just small... not 'child'. Giving that as feedback gave me a 3 star review 😂

And I don't think I would need to link to PSWPower's Ali page.

So, yes you can find stores on Ali* marketplace which have been there for some time, you can find factory outlets and you can find the worst scams you can imagine ( the POS which sold me that mislabeled firehazard of a battery should consider himself lucky I'm not in a position to show my appreciation of that in person ). But that was, off course, 100% my own fault. 'Real 20Ah 48v' as catchphrase for your add should have made me stop in my tracks and run for the hills. Especially when some of their limited reviews already straight up indicated 'capacity given is wrong'.

As to this ->
The battery part is what im most concerned about and probably the main reason for this post because I dont want to cheap out on a battery that will just explode or break down. Im just looking for a reliable seller that sells a battery that is compatible with the motor I will be getting.
Have you considered getting the battery from a more local (re)seller? While I'm fairly ok giving people links who want some bicycle parts, I can't say the same about batteries. The store I'm using is PSWPower where I also bought my motor, but I'm doing that not because I know for a fact their batteries are 'really high quality'. More: I can't find any horror stories, and the prices seem to match the market + buying motor and battery from the same vendor usually means you won't end up with a battery which isn't capable of driving the motor.

Unitpackpower (UPP) seems to get reasonable reviews from most, and I'm expecting at least part of the bad reviews to come from people who bought from fake stores ( you can find many 'UPP' stores on AliExpress, but only one is the right one which been around since 2014 ).

Battery packs like sd cards are something I buy from sellers with a trusted supply chain and bound by local consumer protection, and im content to pay a competitive premium price for branded specified cells.

ETARIO Battery Store on AE has made me reliable packs with genuine Samsung cells before that met their stated capacity and balanced well:

I'd stay away from UPP. Even the real ones, their cheapest packs save a couple cents to not populate the resistors in the BMS that bleed off cells when full, so don't support top balancing. That's not a good idea. Limits pack life and effectiveness. Not surprising they are famous for starting fires.

^-- i agree that nobody should cheap out on batteries.

Substantially lower your chance for 6-7 digits of property damage by spending a couple hundo more on a battery..
Great ROI!

Yeah, modern era, I'd go one step safer with a fully potted, UL listed lithium ion battery. Or some chemistry that's bulky, but safer like LFP or sodium ion. I even saw a reasonable NMC chemistry setup with Gouach bolt together batteries recently.

Unfortunately I have a bunch of older style batteries that are all fine, so no excuse to upgrade at the moment unless I wanted to drop down from carrying two to work to carrying one. 😂 I'm upgrading my power tools to 60V DeWalt from 12V Milwaukee, so maybe I'd just use those too.
