i have a question for the experts here.

Ilia Brouk at ebikessf tells me the only 26 inch rim that will fit the hookworm 2.5 inch tire on the crystalyte motor is the alex dm24. he says the rim must have no eyelets and that the only spokes that fit the crystalyte motor are the 12 gauge spokes. Is this accurate? the alex rims seem fine. i just like to have more rim options. please enlighten me.

thanks for replies.

the holes in the hub flange are drilled 12g ( larger ) than most quality brand name rims with eyelets that tend to be 14g...

butted spokes ( 13g at hub, 14g at rim ) are one option that works well..

otherwise you have to DIY ..

You can use any rim you want. No way in hell I'd use Alex DM24's with a 2.5" tire. I'd assume that's the rims he has and doesn't want to go to the trouble of getting wider rims. Ask for Alex DX32's, Weinmann DH39's or something similar if you want a solid wheel. I switched to DH39's about 6 months ago and now consider a 24mm inside rim width junk. Although 8mm difference doesn't sound like much, it makes a world of difference in both strength and stability.

What about the sun ringle mtx 33 or 39 rim using 13gauge butted spoke from the hub to a 14 gauge butted spoke to the rim? dt swiss iii alpine spokes say they are 13 gauge at the head and 14gauge at the threded end. would that work without filing the eyelets? if i take this to a local bike shop would they understand all of this ebike jargon or should i just do the wheel build myself? thanks.

MTX 39 looks ok, but it's disc only if that matters.
I ordered 2 of these, used one as is and stripped the second for the rim.
