Samsung 25R/LG 18650HE2/ Sony VTC5 high power 18650 battery

I'm still thinking about it ...
I don't want to spend money for a spot welder (Not much space and I won't use it anymore and I couldn't sell it here...) then Im thinking that I'm gonna connect the cells like "Allex":
file.php

I know it's not good but no other solution, I'll use a 150w iron and air compresser.

I'm gonna wear this : https://www.fasttech.com/products/1425/10012816/2157700 or this http://www.batterysupports.com/80pcs-cardboard-1x-18650-battery-insulators-electrical-adhesive-p-347.html
I didn't choose yet.

For the BMS, maybe this one : http://fr.aliexpress.com/item/13-lithium-battery-protection-board-48v-lithium-battery-BMS-30A-continuous-60A-peak-discharge/1741121963.html
I'll buy it on Aliexpress (cheap shipping for Japan).

And finally, for the charger, I'll open new thread, I have a lot of questions.

Thank you ! I thought so too.. I've never seen anybody used them.

Haha of course I could but I don't have any car battery... Then it'll be useless. ( I've already seen this post ;) and I thought about it )

I could have builded a spot welder with supercapacitors for 50$ or even just buy/take a microwave coil.. but I'll still need to buy the wires, electrodes etc...

But I'll think again ;)

Hypothetical question. How far approximately would you expect a 20s9p samsun 25r battery to get you ?

Im running the default settings on my adappto and have a wheelset from roadrash with pretty beefy tires.

I did 22 miles yesterday starting with the batteries at 4.12 so right around 82 volts and when I ended I as at
3.67 or 71V. Honestly I expected a bit more out of the battery. It's putting out plenty of amps , but capacity
is questionable. Also wondering if I could adjust the adappto (used the auto settings) to better use power.

For the ride I did push it a bit initially during the 1st 5 miles , but afterwards I was pretty easy and at the end I
did the last 7 miles pedalling most the way just because I was concerened with the cells so low.

I have a nice stash of the tesla cells along with 160 of the lg cells from tumich so Ill be adding additional capacity
soon , but atm this is what I have in the bike.

Ok sweet. I was wondering if my dealings with lipo just had me being to cautious. I know with my lipo packs I never liked
to see em get below 3.7 and it just carried over. ok sweet so it's not as bad as I thought. Thanks man.

Just bought one of those so I can do opportunity charging when Im out and about.

Car battery is really cheap, it's around 45$ in my country. And that's all you need besides my welder.
It's not cheap, for a simple 450A (I think the start current is more important) 47Ah, it's at least 80$ here.
+ your circuit + wires + electrodes etc... too much money spend for just once...

Anyway thank you =)

Hey again just before connect the bms to this 12p14s pack I have a question.

Id like to make sure the .3mm nickel strip will suffice without extra copper connectors keeping in mind I will probably upgrade from the bbs02 to a LR kit at some stage .

Am I good to go?

you are doing an amazing job, this is a good example about how to make a 18650 pack correctly on a frame.

Spacers, strong soldering spots, thick and wide strips, maximized density, insulated and separated paralleled groups,

just show the right BMS and I can score this as a 10/10 building

nice work! :D

That construction is downright pretty. And functional too. Great job.

Does anybody know the cycle life for the 25R at 1C charge and 2C discharge? The datasheet says 250 cycles to 65% at 5C but i want to know at lower C.
I ask because my favourite cell would be the Sony V3 which has only 11% of capacity loss after 500 cycles at 1C charge amd 2C discharge from 4.2V down to 2.5V

I would be very happy :)

That sounds great riba, how do you plan to cycle the cells? I also thought of getting a cycle charging device but can't find anyone for cheap.
In my opinion we need some sort of standardized cycle charge test, that would be awesome.

Hi

Anyone know if a 20s6p Samsung 18650 25r pack will be able to handle 120a peak current discharge.
Works out at 20a peak per cell.
Reading the information here cells will get hot at 20a discharge
