Samsung 25R/LG 18650HE2/ Sony VTC5 high power 18650 battery

I had bad experience with one seller, package was labeled improperly, and not sent as liion batteries, so the customs seized ad destroyed the package, so I had to go through paypal claim process.

Sony vtc5 are the best in terms of performance, but not worth their price if you ask me, and they are also currently unavailable. I would buy new samsung 25r, in green sleeve. Its relatively cheap, it's NCA chemistry, and has great performance.

on my workbench right now sits 640 Samsung 25R cells - to be split into 4 packs.

Hi Willow some tidy parcels of range you have there :)

If its ok to ask what spec strips and spot welder are you using?

Any tips and observations you came across would be cool.

Thanks River

I had cells spot-welded from the supplier... but am looking into setting up to do this. Would be very handy.

Edit on the shipping weight and shipping cost for dn-10 spotwelder*

It weighs in at 21kg and will cost 250 shipping to Australia

Ended up going with .3 x 8mm strip from http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/0-3mm-lithium-ion-battery-Nickel-Strip/623665_874190520.html

River

I got a quote for $328.76 to the USA from Julie at cart100 for the DN-10. That was at the quoted 21kg weight. I can't see paying a grand for it although it looks like the best one to get but a bit high to build one pack with.

Bummer!

Tom

Maybe dn5 have less weight. Think about it this way, if you buy this one You will always get it sold in the sales sections here. So you will loose minimum.

A little off track but i bought a cycle satiator for 14s14p build . Can I still make use of a 14s charger or would the satiator along with the bms do the job?

Guess what im asking is dont a multiple series charger and a bms do the same thing?

hi there hill hater. ill answer for willow..the supplier was Evva. quite a good price(best iv seen so far) 4.05usd/cell(!)
they got the spacers round the wrong way in a couple of the paralelle groups, but otherwise very nice.

Is that price with or without shipping included?

That was without shipping... They were very quick to spot weld and ship - most excellent service.

Thanks, ..im tempted .... since i lost 3 Lipo packs to cell failure last week !

Yea I am interested a bit more to hear what the cost breakdown is for willows purchase.

that seems like a pretty good price per cell based on what I have seen. Getting them welded
like that in packs also would make it that much easier. Great info

Starting to think this may be what I use to power my current build.

Ok...

Each pack - 160 cells in 20S 8P
fully charged 84V 20AH
Finished size - 326 x 205 x 67mm

Cells - $3.95 each
plastic holders and spot welding - $0.25 per cell
Total - $4.20 per cell.

 My thought is to get them factory tab welded into parallel pairs.
Then you can arrange and configure them into any size/shape groups by simply soldering links onto the tabs between the cells with no danger of heat damage to the cell.
Easy to break down packs and replace or rearrange them also !

Amen on that hillhater.

I need to do a bit more research make sure I have the web site correct and all that , but I think in the next week Ill be buying my xmas present early.

Thanks for sharing willow

New weight measurements, this time with 2 more digits, that reveals some interesting stuff :D I'm really sorry for the crappy pictures, but if someone doesn't believe the pictures, I can take better ones.
