Schwalbe Big Apple 20 x 2.00 tire on my 20 inch 9C ?

Hi.

I will like to use the Schwalbe Big Apple 20 x 2.00 tire on my 20 inch 9C 2805 rear hub.

I have read that the tire is a little bit wide for the rim, but that it's possible !

Have you try it ? Do you use a Big Apple tire on your 9C.

I used to use Big Apples on my trike (20" wheels) and they gave a decent ride but wore out really fast. I now use Wal-Mart kevlar tires at 15 bucks apiece and they last a lot longer with no flats. My wife has Hookworms on her trike and they really last well and corner well. She has a front Big Apple that is wearing out too quickly. I'm not thrilled with the European tires generally as they are too expensive and don't wear well.

Yes it fits, and work like a charm
much softer ride than a hookworm and less drag.
Good choice for Montreal street texture

Hi! In my experience, 20" or 26" x 2.00" Big Apples mounted on narrow rims makes the tire more balloony and cushy but not good for cornering as it would wobble. Mounted on wide rims makes it better for cornering due to more contact patch, less wobble, but less cushy.

And yes they wear out faster if you ride like a maniac every day or ride long distances but that's similar to eating processed food full of preservatives vs organic. Organic will spoil faster but the freshness is worth the effort of shopping daily as opposed to stocking up on processed foods.

Big Apples are great on normal street rides with bad asphalt. The only place I ever see perfect asphalt is a shopping mall parking lot or INSIDE the mall itself :lol:

How many miles did they take to wear out? I have 2.0 apples on a regular mountain bike. Not used much. Here's a long story made short:

I purchased 26x2.0 apples a few years ago for my ebike. At the time, they were only $30. The ride wasn't good on the heavy ebike probably due to a defective tire. Thinking the tires were no good at the time and not knowing about the warranty, I got bontrager Hank tires and put the schwalbe's aside for awhile. Recently I got the apples back out and looked at them really close. One tire had a 1/8" rise to it. It was a small bulge. I took a picture of it and sent it to schwalbe for warranty. I received a new tire. The new one only has 1mm rise total between the rim and tire irregularities so thats pretty good. It has a small amount of twisting side to side though as it rotates which doesn't impress me. The reflex sidewall jumps around also and doesn't spin straight. Maybe they do that on purpose so motorists see it better. I don't know. I see the tire costs $48 dollars now from them direct. The sidewalls (liteskins) are being made thinner for 2011. A little cheaper from bike shops though I think. I believe the added cost is because of the warranty. Seems like a great policy. It does work. They obviously need it. No more schwalbes for me though. I'm done.

I happy with it, I guess it depends on preferences.

Yes cornering can be unstable but I leaned the bike more than most people to get there.
Anyways the tire is not made or selled for that.

I have two years and about 1200 miles on my 26" Big Apples and tread is still near perfect. Not a single flat in two years. They grip well on dry asphalt, but slip easily when it is wet.
