Tires. There has to be an easier way

Unhappy results.

I aired the tire up to 65 LBS, and brought it inside because the house is 80 degrees today. It had a well lubed bead. and 30 minutes later, the tube exploded, tearing the bead off the tire.

I have never had this much trouble with a tire before. Not on cars, trucks, motorcycles, Or bikes.

So in a fit of rage I flung that tire off across the garage, and put a Maxxis hookworm back on the rim, with tube, and no tools in under a 3 minutes.

Dang, sorry to hear it went that bad for you! What temp did you air it up at?

imagine if you got a flat with the tire, that stinks.i had to put alot of sportbike tires on a few years ago  .it was very disturbing.i only use kenda tires on my ebike, can fix a flat with 1 tire lever.

talc powder or dish soap really helps.

+1 and a rubber mallet to whack the tire onthe final 6-8 inches...You think hookworms are hard
try mounting the 20x4.25in tires on the rims....

I have personally mounted an Arrow Savage 3.0x26 tire on a Halo SAS downhill rim. I thought something was wrong. I don't have any tire levers either. I just haven't run into a tire that I couldn't mount by hand so I've never bought levers. The Arrow was a bear though. I laid it out in the sun until it good nice and warm, then stretched it by hand as much as I could. When I was putting it on, I had to use a welding clamp on the opposing side to keep the beads together and centered in the valley of the rim. Then I just stretched the tire on there like I always do. Stand on the rim and pull the bead up and over with my fingertips. Getting that outer rim protector bead to seat was tricky. I ended up putting about 50psi in the tire and laying out in the sun again. Once it was warmed up, I dropped the pressure to about ten lbs and just worked my way around the tire grabbing the tread and twisting the tire until the bead seated on each side. Probably took an hour or two to get it on there and right. It was a lubeless operation though. I can't get a good grip on the tire if it's all lubed up. Pure force is the secret. I think more the Star Wars kind than the physical kind though.

If you need a rim, I have an extra Halo SAS 26" x 39mm wide rim that's I'd make you a great deal on. I've got a matching 20mm axle hub too.

Regardless of mounting difficulty, Arrow/Duro makes a STOUT tire!

Mine says Duro Leopard under the Arrow logo. When I first started rounding up parts for my bike build, I contacted Duro and they said they didn't make anything for a 26" rim and didn't want to deal with me though. Maybe they'll see the demand and get into the game. The first company that builds some nice DOT rated tires for a 26" rim will probably make some $$$.

those work OK on a dry tire, but I have seen them shred the bead when the tire was tight and didn't want to budge. Add some soap to the speed lever and they do work pretty good.

+1 on this, easy to shread the bead buy sliding the tool...you can buy metal core tyre levers, they won't break...also old Michelin, yellow, tyre levers also don't brake...

I feel you pain...by day I am a bike mechanic...

I have worked in several bike shops for a couple of years and had some tough tires. Road bikes and tubeless are the worst, but it really sounds like that tire did not fit that rim. Either way, if it was that hard to do new, I would hate to try and fix a flat on the side of the road while the bug are biting. You obviously want a good tire, but it should also be easy to change when you get a flat. That is one of the up sides of a bike vs a motorcycle. You can carry everything you need to fix a flat on the road easily and do it quickly. I say stick with the hookworms, or find a rim and tire combo that are easier to change.

On my 3rd inner tube I managed to get the 26x2.5 Hookworms on my rear rim. Man no shop would touch in where I live, had to le all the air out of the inner tube and push the valve nearly into the rim so that the thicker part of the inner tube was not getting in the way of the beading.

Love the tyre though.
