TSDZ2 power lag problem

HI, my TSDZ2 motor often has a delay in power on starting off, which can be very frustrating in city traffic!
The motor seems to need several turns of the pedals before it wakes up. It is an intermittent fault.
Also, the throttle has a delay and only provides minimum power, so useless for quick response in traffic.
Has anyone else had these problems, or have any suggestions?
(I have to say, I am not impressed with the TSDZ2;
I have two Bafang BBS02's that have been faultless and perform perfectly, for several years,
and their throttles give a good little boost when starting off).

Are you not moving the pedals for 10 seconds after powerup? I have OSF firmware installed on two TSDZ2 and they will act erratically if we move the pedals too soon, If you have some computer skills, I recommend trying the OSF/embrusa firmware that works with most standard displays. I would not have kept my first one given the way it worked out of the box. It's OK for someone that has never ridden an ebike.

No, the throttles don't pull hard in any gear like they do on the BBS02. You have to be in a starting gear for any benefit and it's still small.

I found the TDSZ2 speed sensor very sensitive. It works better at wide spacing, like around 1 cm. When first installed, at the typical 1/8" like on a BBS02 sensor, the controller would often read 2x-3x wheel speeds, and this can disrupt power delivery.

Thanks for your advice. I'll try the idea of not moving the pedals for 10 seconds after startup.
I would certainly like to try installing the OSF firmware, but from what I've seen online it may be a tough call for me!
Interesting too about the speed sensor spacing; I'll try that. too.

Is it a new TSDZ2 and has it always acted this way? What's the spec of the battery? Are the wiring up to snuff?
 
Something is not right with your unit.
i have a stock mk 1, 48v unit with stock software and have none of those problems.
plenty of assist especially in “turbo” setting ( why use less if you want assist ?)
rarely see any need for thumb throttle as the pedal assist is instant.
 
I put a 36v TSDZ2b in a bike and was so totally underwhelmed with it that I haven't worried about or noticed any lag yet. Maybe if I put more volts into it, it would make it good enough for me to want it to be a class "A" ebike . Haven't got around to worrying about it enough to try and fix it, because I have a BBSO2 on a bike. It works so good, but is kind of a souless wonder.
 
I also think something might be faulty with your motor. I never had delay with the support: There is a Hall sensor with around 40 or more magnets detecting almost instandly when you move the pedals - that plus some pressure on the pedal instandly starts the engine up.
On the side topic of TSDZ2 vs Bafang: It all comes back to the old question what you really want: Do you want the feeling of a (bio) bicycle with support proportional to your efforts? Or do you want a bike wich moves you also with just ghost pedalling? For the latter take the bafang, for the former take the tongsheng. (Added requirement for long-lasting fun with the tsdz2 is the willingness & ableness to tinker a bit if needed - thats the added ‚price‘ you pay for this otherwise dirtcheap nice motor with a great community helping and improving the motor, esp with the great OSFM of mbrusa.

I have OSF on my TSDZ2 but never experienced having to wait 10 seconds of not moving the pedals after power up. What I've learned is to never put my feet on the pedals during power up, which can throw the power up torque sensor calibration out of wack which sometimes result in no assist or low assist if the pedals were weighted.

Mine is a 48V TSDZ2 with OSF, runs great, currently have around 900 miles on the odo, not underwhelmed at all! Worth trying a 48V battery!

Hi, yes it's new, and has always done this. Battery is 36v 10 Ah and the wiring is good.
As docw009 said above, the TSDZ2 speed sensor is sensitive to gap dimension. Try varying the gap between 10 to 15 mm, see if that fixes the delay. If not, take a good video demonstrating the problem, send it to the seller and ask for a warranty replacement.
