Turnigy HXT Powered Custom Cruiser Worklog

Love the scoop! And aren't those turnigy meters handy? Are you planning on rain ride-ability or are you only taking it out in dry weather? I was thinking that watt meter could get soaked as it is now...but I'm betting you prefer the dry climate. Up here we have rain 9 months out of the year it seems...so waterproofing is paramount! Sent us some lipo pr0n when they arrive!

dequinox no she will be striclty a dry weather bike me no likey the rain
thankfully we have more fine weather than wet, opposite of you i guess :)
It wouldnt be very difficult to wet weather proof it though
I like the Turnigy meters over the Watts Up i had a had the later donated it
to Amberwolf to make use of. The blue backlight on the Turnigy is nice touch.

I spent yesterday watching my Footy team get stomped did a few lil 'cosmetic'
things to the bike nothing major felt unwell and ended up in bed at 7.30pm
up now at 4.15am as a result though will have many pics by days end

Cheers guys

Custom RC Motored Cruiser..FINISHED!!!....for now :?

I put some finishing touches on the bike today
before wheeling it outside for some final
pics, unfortunately I haven't been able to get
video i shall ad it to this post in coming days
its a long weekend in Australia for ANZAC day
was impossible to get two mates together at
same time unfortunately so hopefully i'll have some
luck tomorrow..

Anyhoot...Aside for a few modifications discussed in the
worklog previously the bike is now finished-->

Custom_RC_Motered_Crusier_Finished_Pics.jpg

There are a few things i have to still take care of
the sprockets for the manual drive will be chrome plated
the rear mudguard (not on bike) is also to be re-chromed
(I have 'bobbed it also tiz now ~1/2 the size it was previously..)
the powdercoat on the tow hitch needs attaching but
i wanted pics without it first, it also needs a slight 'tweaking'
the powdercoat has pushed it out somewhat on the mounting and it
eeeever so slightly ribs on the tire.

I would like to thank a few people that have made
this build possible, first and foremost
Matt Shumaker (Mr Recumpence SiR) for both his financial support
and generous donation of parts for
this build, he has made it possible for all to get an rc motor
onto a e-bike with beautifully made reduction
drives... Matt, you're in my opinion one of the most influential
people in the technological advancement of this hobby,
thank you mate i am in your debut :)

Mr GGoodrum for the
boards installed and for those that will be installed
in the very near future along with your latest BMS, thank
you Gary you have made it alot easier for not only me
but other noobs to use Lithium Polymer batteries with
more confidence and ease. :)

Matt Parks (1000w) Without Matt this build
would have been a very very hard struggle for me,
thankyou for your continued generosity of parts and time mate
it is greatly appreciated I hope i can repay this kind
in the near future :)

enoob Thankyou for your advice and
donation of parts and 'items' (that will remain a lil
secret for now hehe
) cheers mate much appreciated.. :)

There has been a plethora of people that have
contributed to this build over the last 72 pages, the
same familiar names have always been ready to jump
in to offer their expertise In particular BIG thanks must got
to:- Hyena, Miles, Jeremy Harris, Amberwolf, Thud,
GWhy, my Canadian buddy
Frank G, dontsendbubbamail, Burtie, etard, spinningmagnets,
TPA, Grinhill, gtadmin, rodgah, Timma,
Carvin' Marvin, johnrobholmes & YPedal MaN...

Apologies if I have missed any of the regular contributors.

I appreciate your continued interest over this rather
lengthy process, i wish you well now and in the future
with your own projects and hope you might take a
little something from these pages...

I shall return in time with both the video and
upgrades when parts become available...till then
this is my take on 2 wheel electric bicycle ...
thankyou all for helping make it possible.

KiM

Congrats Kim thats one very very shmick looking ride mate !
No worries with the advice/support, you're welcome and I'm pleased to have helped.

If parking that thing outside the pub doesn't get you laid nothing will.
Although I still think you prefer blokes...

I might have to commission you to make me some training wheels after my spill...

Kim, that is one awesome ride!
Been watching this one from the start. Gotta say that in one way, sad to see it finished. Kinda got used to the (almost) daily updates on the machine. Seeing the way you develop the bike has certainly given inspiration to a few of my planned projects (beyond drilling a bazillion holes in everything that is).

Congrats mate - enjoy the ride.

Great job Kim. If I ever get one of my bikes even close to the finish of yours I'll have accomplished something. You definitely set the bar high for the rest of us.

NO.1 build in beauty ebike. i really impressed the build..

Brilliant work, Kim, and brilliantly documented.

Epic topic nomination, whadda ya think guys???

Hi AJ,

What i love about custom work is it becomes one of a kind in the world.
You'll shine anywhere you ride that e-choppa :D

Congratulation on an awesome work and design it paid off well.

Cheer's

Beautiful job, Kim! How did you manage the freewheel for the pedal chain on the port side? Is it integrated with the brake disc?

Top notch build :!:

Dave

Thankyou all for the positive feedback greatly appreciated

hehehe ...Hyena..hence forth to be known as "highside Hyena" :D i can get to work on them this week would you like them painted in dog dick pink
or pussy lip purple? :D Perhaps you should seelz the bike and get a trike....with trainer wheels

congratulations kim--job well done! will you give this bike a name?

Hadn't really thought about it TBH i just refer to it as the crusier when i talk to people about it.
Have you anything particular in mind mate? Has anyone got any suggestions? Does it need naming?

There is detailed pictures on how this was accomplished on page 17 of the worklog...

Cool build. Look forward to some vids. Yer close to convincing mr to give up ICE.

Honestly I don't know why anyone would bother with a 49cc happy time Alaskavan, under powered
junk motors, electric is the only way to go on a motored bicycle if you want anything that resembles performance.
Get yourself an e-bike with a decent motor, lithium batteries & you will have more power
and range than you need, you will cart that ICE bicycle to the rubbish tip.

Thanks again people for the encouraging words and support, i spent today reeeealxing with the feet up
in between short blats around the neighbourhood MATE! its SO freakin good to have my bike back
lovin it big time!! And no more CRACK & CLUNKING from the 3 speed can give it SHEEEET now
and she bolts hehe...

My baby :)

Back with video ASAP fellas...I think i'll at least be able to get a walkaround/overview video of the bike
happening tomorrow and the ride videos lil later in the week when the lads drop in for 'beer o'clock'
after work...

Amazing AJ!!!!!!!!

I missed this during my winter hibernation, but I will begin reading from page 1!!!

Thanks for making my day,
Jay

AJ, did you get the rear hub changed out ?? Maybe I should go back and read the past 10 pages ?? :)

JESTER CRUISER MOBILE that is my name for it bahahahha,

nah seriously no need to thank me I dont think I really contributed too much, more like stupid questions. What it is though is beautiful, and the most complete product/ebike to date.......for the record matt(recumpence) sorta doesnt count because he only modified and existing design. HAL's designs are cool dont get me wrong, but hes using a hub  . So HERE HERE for an elegant, non-hub, paralell drive, home made(maybe we shall call it manufactured....since home made is usually follwed by something dodgy), ebike that is functional while still retaining a cool look.

Beauty!!! Can't wait to see the vids, nice to see 'er all back together!

Congrats buddy! Pop a brew, put on some Bob Marley  and just sit back and smile, this is what ebike aspirations are made of. Honestly, I've never seen a bike on this forum that I want to ride as much as yours. Not only does it look good, but it looks really rideable too. It's the kinda bike that I would take out to the beach and ride along the coast, stopping to plug in at each taco bar until I hit Mexico, and then I would turn around. Can't wait to see your next build, you gotta put a new twist on it, maybe throw some wrenches and get mad like big Paul would on OCC. Actually I'm sure you did a little of that during the electronics phase of the build.

That makes two builds I've watch you complete on this forum.

It is fantastic to watch it all come together into a thing of beauty after such crude beginnings and scribblings on paper.

Bust a bottle of champagne on the forks and put up a vid.

Yes mate i did have an extra wide chrome disk brake hub from choppers US with a white Industries ENO freewheel on the rear pulley and a lefthand thread freewheel on a custom adapter on the disk brake side, the Sturmey archer couldnt handle the torque unfortunately
and you would need to go back a bit further than 10 pages i think easier i tell you on this occasion :D ...cheers mate ;)

Maybe so but you have showed continued interest like a handful of others at least i know the
worklog is attracting interest and being read so it makes the stopping to take pics while working and editing and writing up the
details of the work each time worth the effort, if i didn't think people were interested i could happily make it and not take a pic, i hope the work n these pages might inspire others and give a clue how to tackle some aspects of bicycle fabrication. cheers mate

Thanks buddy, didn't you see the first trike? made from two mountain bike frames? pig ugly thing was one before the matt black Rat e-trike
How about i just pour a lil beer over the forsk don't want to scratch it

Think thats it for now...OH!!! no one more thing weighed the bike!!@!?!?@ SO HAPPY!...i have lightened it by 5kg
she now weighs 45kg (99lbs) down from 50kg with the old sturmey and extra batteries....

So i went to the bike shop today to organise a brand new front rim and hub, i organise it before, or so i thought
and let it slide when it didnt eventuate, so i went and saw Tim at the LBS this morning and sat there while he ordered me
a new double walled 24in front rim and DH mountain bike disk brake hub. Should be in by end of week.

I also picked up a few goodies-->

Upgrade_1_catEye_&_me.jpg

My old wireless speedo was just not cutting it the extra distance because of fork length seemed to be
detrimental to the performance of the unit SO the new wired CatEyE speedo works a freakin treeeeat!
Some new grips which i still need to get on the magura throttle unbeknown to me the 'rubber' part of the
grip is bonded to a more solid inner hard plastic liner so its not "stretchable" I shall try boiling it in
hot water to make it more supple, die grind out the aluminium locking doodas and try and stretch it onto the magura
throttle...failing this working i will cut the grip horizontally and glue the "rubber section onto the throttle
..last resort but with the slice place below the bar wont be seen and with the locking nuts and epoxy will be secure...
lastly the slime, MUST HAVE guys spend the buck its worth it...oh and mate dropped in for a quick drink
he works fruit and veg markets 11am for him is like knock off time as he gets up at ~3.30am so had him take a pic
of me with the bike

ok..cheers chaps ciao for now...
