Welcome to discussion regarding Votol EM-200 Controller.
Votol EM-100 and EM-150 discussion is here - http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=95969&sid=7f877be3164e7e85d7d28e6dde552e59

Here what I got for now:

Will try to test it with QS138 Motor

Isn't that usually paired with EM-150S?

Any advantages going bigger?

I might go to the QS hub 273 for more power, looking for better than Kelly 7230S

Have been eying Sabvoton for FOC

Does Votol make anything along those lines?

kls7230 is what QS quoted me for the 273

Obviously if Em150 is plenty to get max use of their 273, it would be crazy oversized for the 138!

I'm trying to get to (or near) 130 N.m if that's relevant.

My main question though, aren't there downsides driving a small hub motor with a grossly oversized controller? Even if only energy efficiency i.e. range?

It’s all in the kV which is 60 for the 138 70h mid drive. To get max torque you’d need a 56/(9.55/60)=352A phase current controller.

I guess the kV is about 12 for the 273? 130/(9.55/12)=163A phase current controller would in theory get you there.

The grossly oversized controller would be a lot more robust but efficiency-wise i cannot say since i don’t know how many fets and how well they match the 273 motor. I would not buy a Kelly if i had other options, they suck.

Very helpful, thanks, 163A seems reasonable. Is that to get to my max 130 N.m or the max the 273 can put out safely? I assume the latter is higher. . .

(edit, max torque for 273 is claimed about 267 N.m)

So, besides the lack of FOC and the USB snafu, what else sucks about KTs?

Sabvoton the way to go if not Votol?

Sorry, got wires crossed before,

from QS:
____
For the motor we suggest you use 40*4T, which the RPM is about 660RPM @72V(KV9.16), max speed is about 50km/h

The max phase current for the motor is about 326.4A

For the controller we suggest is SVMC72150 which max phase current is 350A.

To the OP, sorry for the hijacking, say the word and I'll fork off to a new thread

So the motor must be well into saturation at max torque as it should be enough with 256A current.
Svmc is sabvoton? I’ve read about too many breaking to want one . KT i don’t know now since it was years since i had one.
I think this is too OT to continue in this thread.

Does anyone know the actual high voltage limit of this controller? Will it do 90.5 like what is in the settings in the first post? I have one on order and want to run the highest volts possible.

Max voltage is 90.
Btw, did you tried to run it already somehow?
Because it seems that all EM200 are buggy and better to replace it by warranty.

Looks like I will run 21s to stay under 90 volts. I’m waiting for controller to arrive, also waiting for QS 4000 watt mid drive, next size up from the 138.

Regarding em200, QS' stand:
i suggest not to purchase EM200P controller at this moment. It still has some problems. And engineer is working on the issues now. It still needs about 1 month now.

Could you link to the specific motor you mean?

Very odd, the torque spec being so low.

"205 45H V3" is rated only 2000W but 160N.m

"205 50H V2" at 3000W rated 180N.m

So how can a 4000W motor only put out 60-80?

torque increases with the airgap diameter squared, it's also proportional to pole count so it increases even further on the hub motor

(205/138)^2=2,21

Power= torque*rpm/9.55

either it's torque or speed that creates the power, you choose.

None of that has meaning for me.

I was trying to figure out what motor he's referring to is all.

Cyclone 18kw vs the new 4000w to QS?
Who has the most torque? It states the Cyclone can max out at 120nm at higher amperage.

Is the qs very underrated?

Yes, and I appreciate the attempt.

I was just pointing out my low level of understanding. Maybe as I learn more it will in future make sense for me.

Also very close to pulling trigger on the 4000 QS and EM200. Seems like a good winner from what I'm reading; but so new no real life tests as far as I have found. I'm shooting for loads of torque and 40mph top speed, with a 2 stage reduction. In theory of course. :|
