Did I short out my controller?

I recently bought a 48v 1000w rear hubmotor kit on craigslist without a battery. I bought a 46.8v 8.6ah lithium ion battery from Em3ev. I tried testing the rear wheel by touching the black and red leads from the battery to the corresponding leads on the controller and it sparked. I bought a diagnostic tester from EM3ev at the same time I bought the battery so I started testing things and the battery and hubmotor seem to be fine but the 5v test on the controller did not light up. Did I blow the controller? I'm new to all this stuff so any help would be great. Thanks Joe

There could well be a small red wire that also needs to be connected to B+ to power up the 5 volt section.
