No. Counterproductive. The rack stays level as it is only connected at the seatpost. I just don't overload it, and inspect it frequently. Commonly referred to as a seatpost rack?

This is the one I am currently using:

It has a 25 lb. capacity. IME, the low outriggers are a must, for securing the bottoms of the panniers to keep them from flapping into the wheel.

This one has proved itself a real winner for me. Good design, materials, and construction. Always loaded with 15-20 lb, no problems over several years, several thousands of miles. Even survived a few crashes.


If I limited my riding to non-rainy days I'd go crazy too!

It was 8 bucks! Bought it on the spot, not as trick as the one you pictured, but does have the side drops.

Not sure if you've already sorted the battery and tires but wanted to add some extra suggestions. I've personally had great experience with Schwalbes super moto x tires on my BBSHD bike, they have excellent handling at high speed (I tested them up to about 85kph ) and feel very safe cornering. Mostly road use where road quality varies. They are spec'd for 30-60 psi and I usually run about 40-50psi for a comfy ride. Unfortunately I don't think they sell them in 29ers, but the Schwalbe Big Apple's would be very similar. (Pics of my setup for reference)

As for battery, if your old 48v is no longer useful, you could instead look into a repacking service. Often they can reuse the case, BMS and connectors to save a bit of money, while you also know exactly what cells you're getting. BBSHD requires up to 30 Amps at 48V so you'll need to make sure both cells and BMS can handle this

I'm currently running the Big Apples on my 'exercise' 29er, a great tire too and I have a spare set on hand. I'll just have to check and make sure they can run tubeless. I haven't got any further on the bike since I've been distracted with another bike here, and now there is a big shakeup of Australian ebike laws that will include a mandatory confiscation of any overpowered bike unless it's registered as a motorcycle. Fair enough, I have a few motorcycles registered already so one more won't bother me. It was inevitable they would start taxing them at some point especially with the loss of fuel excise revenue.
