AM dual motor = bafang middrive + rear hub motor

Wanna hear a crappy nail story? Okay the other day I was riding and I hit a nail. I yanked it out, slime and air start shooting out. I figure "what the hell", so I roll the wheel until the hole is on the bottom and the slime actually stopped up a nail hole. I waited a couple of minutes, aired it back up, spun it a few times, waited a little more and was able to finish my ride. Now I know you're thinking, "that doesn't sound like a crappy nail story". Fast forward to the next afternoon. I go to make a trip to the grocery store and wouldn't you know it, the tire's flat. I change the tube out with my spare and head to the store. Well about a third of the way there the spare tube goes flat. Air's just hissing out of it. I had to walk home. When I got home I pulled the tube out of my "just in case my hub motor quits working" regular rear wheel and put it in. I was finally able to make it to the store and back. Yay, or so you think. Well later that evening my roommate goes to get his bike and ride to work, and guess what, his front tire's flat. I had to loan him the front wheel on my bike so he could get to work. He only had front brakes to start with and because of my wider rim and being short on time, he had to ride to work with no brakes. Now this wouldn't be so bad except there's a hill between the house and his job, oh and he's also on an e-bike. He made it there and back but he said it was scary because even doing the old no brakes sneaker to tire trick wouldn't really slow him down.

thanks for the story mate, enjoyed it in a sick kind of way.

Last night after work I stopped off bought a tube, patch kit (few other things spoke wrench and tyre levers) and to be honest I'm not in the mood for big repairs so just pulled off half the tyre and tube, patched it and pumped it all up. It seems like the pressure won't sit at the 60psi as when I checked it the morning it was down to 55 again but seems to be holding constant there.

Just am over pulling the whole kit off.

When I do pull it all off I'm think of swapping front and rear tubes and tyres, but ordering a couple of back up tubes tyres for when d day comes again.

Will be better prepared for sure.

Had a quick ride last night and long ride around my suburb this morning and air pressure seems constant. :D JB is a happy boy.

Saturday - lots more riding and talking to people as everybody approaches me about the bike if they can catch me. I always say I'm going shopping or have been shopping and they trully believe my upside down shopping bag is just that, full of groceries. I always have a chuckle and tell them if I didn't have this bag it would look like I was carrying a bomb.

Nice one . That's a bargain. Have you considered crazy bob on front? Helps braking and steering.

Nah thanks I believe in road efficient and all these knobby people off road just buying into hype. I have ridden off road with various tyres and you'd be stupid to lean into a corner of gravel which is the majority of the off road where I live. put a muddy marry or an urban tyre and the result is the same. you will slide out. so i have settled for road efficiency.

Here's me as a fashion victim with matching coat, bag and shoes.

Crazy bobs are great. Holy rollers very similar if buying on the Maxxis sale. Good rollers but knobby when punching thru mud...

here mate, Quiet rush rocking the stealth with crazy bobs on a go kart track. prety good tracktion on tar. thing is they are orc (off road compound) so yeah they wear quick on the rear but good for stickyness on the front. they lean well as you'll see in the vid, not like grating the rubber knobs off the side because they are round profile with allot more rubber touching than cut out tread pattern. desighned for dirt jump and ramp i think.

Considering I never ride in wet or mud and main objective is to go faster without changing my kit, the hookworms are great.

Really though, I want my future build to have the widest rims, because I hate the slip and or twist or wobble that happens on big leaning. In that vid he has a slip of sorts.

Just got my shipment from Pushys dam they must be in my city. lol I think they are.

Anyway I think they either made a mistake or just threw in an extra tube because I bought so many.

I got an extrea maxxis dh tube for free so I am well stocked for this build now! Anyone need a hookworm or tube suddenly thats in vegas its cost price pick up...

Among other things such as the usual fire trails, creek paths and parks, today is the first time I took my ebike through my much loved mountain bike park single tracks with Newb.

Was a great day out with the biggest factor to consider: my motor heating much more than before because it was hot day and well general punishment.

maybe I lie. IT was pretty amazing doing single track with my ebike. Sometimes it felt lame, so slow, but at other times constantly challenging, negotiating the best line how to get through obstacles all the time. Not about speed just about getting through it, but at the same time having the motor there to get there and up quite a few of the mountains was cool.

Once all these other battery issues get worked out I will have to start looking into cooling. (summers coming)

Sounds good mate. Video wouldn't go astray. Glad to hear you enjoyed a bit of off road.

A new weird thing has started happening where I find I am sitting way back off the seat but just on my legs. I think the faster I go the more I want to sit further back away from the seat.

This is annoying. I wanted to buy the largest (weren't in stock) frame even though I am on the short side, as I was guessing wheel base and high speeds might do some thing like this. I got my arms out straight nicely but just find the seat is too far forward. Anyone else get this feeling?

It's an 18" bike...

Had a great ride out with Osielocal and Newb yesterday. Two of my favorite parts were in the parks ajoining the Enoggera bike path.

1. open stretch of park with lots of people on the path so we all went onto the park but realised late it was mostly dirt and remember looking back at a huge cloud of dirt behind us, I think Ossie ate a bit of cloud... lol
Had a close call again on that section when I flew back onto the path and the concrete wasn't flush with the ground. Thank god rim was ok.

2. Second part was once it got dark coming out of Downey park. We were flying along those perfectly smooth hockey fields and I just remember looking back at the guys with their insanely bright dual or tripple lights thinking dam this looks aliens after a ufo landing. All you can see great balls of light with absolutely no sound going about 50k an hour toward me.

Great day.

Both were using combinations of 6s. Newb 9 packs @ 15ah and ossielocal 8 packs @ 20ah, so you can imagine I had to peddle lots as usual.

After getting totally sidetracked with my broken rim episode it is time get a new battery controller kit to keep up with my main riding buddies. The 48v 7s thing I was thinking is too messy.

I think I will copy Newb at 18s 15ah.
I should be able to fit them with a bit more of a bulge on the sides of the top part of my frame and in the middle. If I get a new controller it should be a waterproof one and mount it in the underside waterbottle position.

Because I still went over 10ah on the ride back - 10.4 to get home, I upped to Ohms to 2.1

Voltage sagging this morning on full charge to shops and back is looking worse the older the battery gets. It's hitting 46v when going up hills and pulling the bigger watt figures.

Sounds good man. Have you seen hyenas white bike with the PVC tube full of lipo strapped to the top tube? I think I mentioned it before.
You could fit 2 wide 3 long on there and 3 in frame.
Might be a bit high for stand over night but probly your best option IMO considering how you don't like the feeling of the front mount.
Edit
Also you could make a wooden box from 3mm ply like I did on my Scott.

ply wood looks easy to work with for me. Could just do it in that but I reckon even just creating the thinnest weakest scaffolding with it to hold the fully assembled packs and then putting carbon sheets down and epoxying it and then removing the wood. I've never worked with carbon sheets but have watched a few youtube guys create custom frames out of it and it looks sick. Some even use bamboo...

Another person mentioned pvc down tube from roof in bunnings. do you know the specific picture you can link from hyena?

he did one for his dad to...

i think if you want carbon you could make it from 3mm ply then paint it mat white or something then do a couple layers of cheap hobby king carbon fibre that would add some strength and look killa

I have to order the lipo and receive before I start building hypothetically. I'm the type of person needs the hands on approach.

Thanks for the pics.

I went and bought $30 worth of chain and lock from the local hardware. I am feeling safer about leaving the bike out now. Sure front wheel could go but doubt anyone would bother with that big metal cutters or carry around all the tools to get my hub off.

I like the chain on even if I am not far as it is a precaution to stop it accidentally fall over. Main reason I didn't get more chain to through the wheels as well.

Got another light to match, nice and symetrical now but the CA3 still looks ugly and outer place with all the dangling wires. I want to put it on top of the battery frame in future.

haha yeah a bit ugly, couldnt you put the bar mount on the other way and have it on your side of the bar?
you should get one of these...

i got one from them but it didnt have the cord. you dont need it any way because the alarm goes off as soon as you move the bike and reminds you to take it off before you ride away and bend the disc. i think i made an offer about $3 less than the listed buy it now price.

I'd worry more about bending the disc brake myself or someone else doing it. Nice gadget for super strong motorbike discs though, doubt they would get damaged by mistake.

that's it I have started a new thread in the for sale section, you can see my signature.

I have to stop denying myself of the speed, range and flexibility that I want.

I want to get either 24s 10AH or 18s 15AH.

Thing is I don't want the bike to always be all my batteries loaded because most rides a short. I want a 5ah pack in the triangle with an addable pack for longer rides.

I get an exciting tip off that some near by is selling a used stealth bomber.

ride over there only 2ahs on a hot day and bam, in his drive way motor starts like its grinding.

found those 3 wires, i think they are phase wires have melted at the plugs. Got to see my first bomber in the real as the guy some how saw me and came down. but i was in the wrong frame of mind. I was keen to try his bike and swap and go for a spin but not when my bike had just clapped out.

pissed off - frock this shit, cheap kit clapped it, now expensive kit clapped it.

over all this shit.

Take it easy John - it's not the end of the world

As often the case it's not the size but how you use it (partial throttle + hot day + small connector = disaster) although as far as phase connectors go: bigger are usually better.

So.. is this the end of the 1st season or the whole series??

taking it easy...an ebike 1st lesson...you could have broke your axel as a friend did with mine...my laptop was outof battery :? :? and so I could not downgrade the power...few throttle quick starts broke it due to heavy torque ! ...the forum should have a page like "how to become a zen master with mechanics/electrics troubles "

Lol.. gold.
Come on Bozi that's nothing to cry about. Get some 8mm gold connectors from Hobby king and a 80watt soldering iron, heat shrink big enough for the 8mm sockets and coloured tape to keep them plugged in the right way.
Should take me less than 1 hr. Might take an in experienced person a couple hrs to not rush.
Opertunity to upgrade. Cost u $50 at most.

its not ebike lesson 1. That was 15 pages ago. I had constant wiring problems with cheap kits so bought an expensive one. Sure it lasted longer.

I think fullthrottle was right though. I did have to use low throttle to turn around on the street, that was when it started.

its just every time I get ready to get on to something new theres another set back...

by the way the stealth bomber was model #27
