The weather is just starting to shift in Brisbane.The last few nights have been cool relatively speaking (17-18C). Along the creek is lowest point and the coolest place. I think everyone gets some kind of watery condensation nose riding at speed in this kind of conditions. Try living in Melbourne where it feels like you have a tap running in your nose and takes about 3hrs by the fire before it calms down. No wonder we moved back to QLD.

How is this for a idea build a lightweight BMX style hill eater. Take that old hub motor out of the bike your brother was riding and lace it into a 20" wheel . Use some real fat tyres to absorb the bumps, throw it in a BMX frame . 20" wheels are a lot of fun (torque) just need them on a frame that was designed for 20" wheels. Keep your new bike for the street.

Prove how I do what? Not sure what your asking.
Why don't you try small motor cycle rim+tyre on back and 24" bicycle on front if you like the small wheels so much. Wheel base should be same and you'll have better acceleration, more nimble off road.

He will have peddle strike on that bike with small wheels. The bike, motor combo just isn't a good package for that kind of riding.

The area he is riding Its not Your typical hills they are very steep. We are talking grany gear and all that happens is your back wheel spins and you don't move.

He has a 10kg hub motor and about 8kg of battery and other ebike gear hanging off a allready reasonably heavy frame. It's a point and shoot bike not a agile lightweight hill climbing single track bike.

I have done enough on this bike - it's not worth changing anymore things. Except for securing the batteries.

Next bike I want to be billy goat. Even wondering to make it pedal less. As in 100% illegal. Would avoid roads as much as possible. 20" creepy crawlies with a humungous granny gear. Don't care if it is slower than a bicycle on flats, just needs to climb, down hill is gravity.

I have go at the trike with 2500w into a little geared hub in a 20" wheel (this friday if you want again) See how that climbs. If thats not enough for you the same style hub motor mid mounted on a BMX or small hardtail with 20 or 24"fat tyres and run the motor through the rear gearset.

I'm thinking a suspension quad BMX would be so much fun! I have to build one, think of all the space for lipo!

Been thinking to use adapters to avoid possible shorting. I realise I will be adding more resistance and loss to the system but mmm what you think?

The last one is my favorite good old deans plugs. Hobbykings knock off are called (XT nylon T plugs) I have used both and They seems to work as good as the genuine deans plug. Compact, tight fitting and good power handling not to mention inexpensive and quick to put together. I got a few bags of 20 M/F from HK a while ago and have used them on all kinds of projects.

The one thing you might have issues with is because they are very small cable size is limited. So not sure how you will go with your 8 awg cable. Can you get sleeves for the 5.5mm plugs you have now?

Not sure what you mean about sleeves, there isn't anything but shrink tube wrapping 5.5 bullets from what I can find. I just use unshrunk longer bits to stop + - touching
I have the docking station under the powerpoint between the wall and bike. Hard for someone to knock stuff over there and I cover it with plastic when not in use to stop animals, moisture, children urinating without nappies upstairs through the floor boards etc. destroying it.

You can see from above two batteries in triangle width is totally acceptable for pedaling and one in front of seat (nearer the narrow part of the legs bowed or testy sacs is also no problem) in this set up. Charging on the bike (although velcro and cloth taped temporarily) takes out many annoying steps of detachment/reattachment.

I would buy a set of something but I'd still be left with having to make up my own series plugs. It will be more complex again when + - is in one plug.

Nobody believes me but if I make sure to cover all bullets, I get no arcing.

Not sure if it is because the controller is totally floating off the frame on neoprene or the capacitors are special or because I am running red and black so separately...

I have had a huge arcs with this set up but thats because Ive accidentally drained the controller by leaving it on.

I've had no arcing even 24 hours after taking off the batteries, but usually it's disconnect, charge and reconnect.

Perhaps HK don't make them for the 5.5mm bullets. All the lipo packs I have use the 4mm? or so bullets and they have a plastic plug over them to both the male and the female bullet are protected.

If your controllers capacitors are drained and you plug your 18s battery into it you will get a arc as the caps charge.

Blame the kids and wild life. I thought it was so you don't spill your beer on it :lol: Seriously Im sure you have it covered but don't leave the lipo out where your child could touch it with the exposed terminals. Kids get into and play with everything.

My concern however is that the plugs look stubbier (shorter fatter) than the polymax ones I have or the ones on my turnigies... The picture on their page (I cant copy here) looks different...

Did some experimenting and I know this is going to take ages and suck up lots of solder and other materials and my head started spinning from the fumes.

I am waiting for the above guy to confirm that I can get a premade set for under $50 will save me the hassle and time...

Get yourself some nice thick solder 3.2mm and use a big hot 80w minimum iron and you could solder that is 10 seconds.

If you cant find any 3.2 come over and I can give you some.

I would recommand you to weld inside those crimp hold beetween two pieces (the 2Y first , next the 1 cable) of wood not get all the heat dissipate in the metal holding it and then cold press them in a vise : easier to soldier solid as a rock , ready to roll

Yes the sleeve isn't a bad idea though a well soldered connection isn't going to go anywhere.

This is just an idea though you would have to start from scratch with all your plugs. I'm redoing all my connections controller, battery's and charger. What I want in a plug is a tight fit, low resistance, fully insulated, water tight, UV resistant and made some kind of quality standard. To get that I am going to use DC solar panel MC3 connectors. I have a box full of them about 500 pairs.

They come in all kinds of configurations from a single plug , double, gland nut (for going into a box) you name it there is a adapter plug for it. They fit so much better than any hobby-king style bullet plug. They are completely water tight IP67 and impossible to short out when unplugged.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, I have however bitten the bullet and just bought the ones I mentioned earlier from "boat biz" SA. For $46 it saves me a ton of hassle and time. They are still dangerous style of plugging.

Hopefully they arrive before Easter ie by tomorrow, otherwise the whole weekend will have to wait... Have Thai new year stuff and also probably a bit of sunshine coast time too.

Was a long day of ebiking. Started off with playing with a ton of spaghetti and I must admit I was quite near the edge of just saying this is too much wiring to deal with. It really is a ridiculous amount of preparation.

All these pictures show the bike after the huge 30km ride. I took off all limiting except high end heat and 70kmh which I hit easily. Yeah it is trully an amazing jump going to 2p, the high watts can be sustained for ages. We basically flew with Newb. I took it easier up the mountain as Im not that sure with all the wiring and velcro strength yet.

Woolworths cover was more just as a way to hide the ugly wiring.

I ended up with 2 in saddle bag, 2 in triangle and 2 between legs in front of the seatpost.

they all look pretty good IMO.

but the first one, the "TANK" with milled swing arm gets me excited. i am considering making a concentric frame but it would be worth doing cromoly. there are so many options.

have you seen the new bosch BBS02 bottom bracket drive, they sell it as a 750watt with 38t front ring but it runs 48v 25amp and has a thermal cut out in the motor. i think the controller is built into the unit and it all slides into the BB shell.
imagine that on a concentric frame? would be nice.

The cnc one would make a beautiful mid drive so you can use gears and the thru axle cleanly, big battery space.

Concentric for me is to run a single speed with the smallest front and back rings. With the smallest ones it would give the best ground/triangle clearance to run a 20" creepy crawly set up. I tried to make the components look as much like a bmx kids ride on the bowls here, just with knobs. Would like to put a 12t in it for climbing. Not about speed at all.

I'm so tempted modify my current bike but think it would be a waste of already functioning set up. Would be different if I suddenly snapped two rims.
