Anyone tried EM3EV new bottle mount batteries?

Yeah, 20 amps is plenty for a test. I would hesitate myself to ask more than that from a pack of that size. 22 amps controller on a real world road test is likely to just discharge 15 amps when cruising. I have little doubt now that it can handle that much.

I'm a lot less doubtful about the product now that I understand that EM3ev is doing the construction of the pack inside. Looking at your pictures, you can just see it's not slapped together like some cheap packs I've seen opened up.

voicecoils - thanks for the pictures and breakdown of the internals. It certainly looks like it is constructed a whole lot better than the Aliepxress chinese ones. Now, all that's left to do is to crack open Lectriccycles battery pack and compare as well.. However, we know lectric cycles says his batteries are imported in from china.

i'm still debating.. because lectric cycles has the high powered panasonic 29PF cells which will blow away the samsungs 22P and 29E... however, I'm told that Paul will have the 25P samsung cells soon.. but no exact ETA yet.

The specifications give that info.

"52PCS 18650 Cylinder cells, capacity 36V10Ah-17Ah or 48V8AH-13.6AH"

http://www.ksreention.com/product/detail/41 another flaky Chinese manufacturer sight!

Or count, 50 in this photo, spec claims 52 will fit.

Just a heads up - I sent a message to NNE-bikes on AliXpress. Apparently the battery cases do NOT include a charger, so that would be an extra $20.

I have asked for a quote on 10 units with chargers, shipped to the USA. I'd be interested in 3 or four of the black units. Would anyone else want to go in with me on a bulk purchase?

I'd go for one black.

I know how to mount it now.

Yes. I would want one with a 2 chargers

Shipped on the 14th, this past Monday, from Heiei CN to SE Minnesota, received today 4/17/2013. WOW!

That is good news. My Bafang BBS01 shipped Thursday April 24 apparently. No tracking code provided as yet. If I get it next week I will be happy :)

Um, that was taken out of context, in context, I lost the links. What do you need. I'll dig whatever you're looking for out, or explain.

Confused again,

Tom

Sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you had the links but couldn't say thanks. I was just interested in seeing how the mount worked for ideas as I plan to mount it on a rack..

I'd be happy to take some pictures. But they are all in the thread. I mistakenly thought the lock was like an ignition key. DOH! (no manual or parts breakdown). The mount comes off easily and it will be a cinch to source 3 nuts and bolts to attach to the rack. As a matter of fact I'm going to look at doing just that before I finish the entire set up. I'm hoping for a spare mount but will likely have to buy an entire case to get there.

Does this mean your kit is getting close? It really is a nice looking unit but not well suited to a frame with any curvature to the downtube. I guess that is only a slight glitch on very few bikes. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Anything happening with a group buy? I NEED a spare mount and will buy the unit to get the mount.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks for the offer. I will see how I go first and if I need some photos will surly take up your offer :)

I hope so. I got an email from Moon on April 24 (Thursday) saying it was shipped but no tracking number and courier unknown. So I guess that means it is being shipped through a third-party agent. Was this your experience?

Andrew

Yes, a few days after Moons first notice he sent the tracking. I'd expect it soon. Nerve wracking but Paul will come through. Save a penny pay a pound in worry.

Thanks for the pictures, voicecoils. Quite helpful.

A few questions:

1. I see 7 balance wires (one black and six red). I assume you have a 13s4p configuration. As a consequence, there should be 14=13+1 balance wires. Are the other 7 balance wires at the back (not visible in the picture)? It seems logical to think that way, but some balance wires in the picture apparently come from the back (the origin is not visible) for this reason I doubt if my interpretation is correct
2. The small box on the far left, with a yellow cover, is the DCDC, with the USB and all that?
3. Why are there so many small red wires coming from the lock?
4. em3ev has a "usual" picture in his webpage of his BMSs:

BMS%20connections-500x500.jpg

From your picture:

file.php

it seems your white cable is the yellow cable in the "usual" em3ev picture (charger negative). It seems the black cable is a battery cable, but I cannot see if it goes towards where the black battery cable goes into the "usual" BMS picture or not. Is the blue cable a cable for the controller, as in the "usual" BMS picture?
5. On the far left of your second picture listed in this post, there are two wide cables, a blue one (which is the blue cable discussed in point (4)) but also a red one. Where does this red cable come from?
6. Do you know which material is the kind of "snowy" substance?

I'm back with more test data, though it's a little messy. Basically, for discharge testing over 10A I use some 220W rated 6.8Ohm power resistors in parallel instead of an active load. Using 4 of the resistors in parallel works well for 36v packs but they get run too hard on 48v packs. So, when I started up the test the resistors started pulling 27A and after a little while began to overheat which meant I had to cut the test short.

But, the test still has useful data. I discharged at 27A for 2Ah and then 7.5A for 1Ah. From the graph you can see the voltage sag under those 2 loads, and the voltage recovery after the load was removed each time. Under the 27A load the cells started at 54v, dropped to 46v and recovered to 51v. Under the 7.5A load, the cells started at 51v, dropped to 48.5v and recovered to 50.0v

Good news is that the connectors between the pack and rail survived 2Ah of 27A current, I was actually surprised. The BMS also didn't cut out, so using the pack with a 25A peak controller will work even if the cells are a bit saggy at that level.
The bad news, not at all unexpected is that you wouldn't want to run at 27A for long since the cells were down to 3.5v/cell at after only 2Ah from full charge.

Here's my original 10A constant current test for comparison:

I didn't count the balance wires but there's no reason to assume there's not 14 wires in total. The rest must be run along the sides or underneath.
2. The small box on the far left, with a yellow cover, is the DCDC, with the USB and all that?
Yep
3. Why are there so many small red wires coming from the lock?
That's the power button, not the lock. The button has a blue LED behind it.
4. em3ev has a "usual" picture in his webpage of his BMSs:

I didn't look closely at the BMS. It's quite small though. I'm sure EM3EV can give you the details.

5. On the far left of your second picture listed in this post, there are two wide cables, a blue one (which is the blue cable discussed in point (4)) but also a red one. Where does this red cable come from?
See above response.
6. Do you know which material is the kind of "snowy" substance?
It's a foam with adhesive spray on both sides, that's why it came apart a bit messy when I pulled it apart.

So that model of 48V pack would like a 20-22 amp. Controller should give 800 cycles or what amp ?
Are you charging to 90 or 100 per. ?
Sorry terrain ect. But 4yr. battery for the wife or daily commuter. How much shipped ?

Dumb question time. I have one of the EM3EV 36V Samsung frame mounted packs coming from Paul. It is stuck in customs at the moment. Anyway I am going to rack mount this on my SWB recumbent which has a Bafang BBS01 motor up front. I estimate the distance from the motor back to the battery is about 1.5 metres.

I am guessing the battery is not going to come with much in the way of cabling would that be right? Assuming no, any suggestions on what I should get in the way of cabling and plugs. Please keep in mind I am a newbie in terms of electrics so need this kept real simple :) Oh the motor has a plug which I guess is for the battery cable ... it is a two pin plug.

Also I have Grin DCDC converter. Now that I have it, I am not sure about where or how I wire it into the system. Any advice on same would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

Paul makes up cables for his kits. Get him to set you up with plug and play cables with correct plugs. The battery does come with proper plugs nothing to do other than plug it in by lining up the arrows on the plugs. I'm thinking that you may need addition lengths? Is that your thought?

Yes I am guessing additional length. I didn't think to organise this when I ordered the battery and motor. Do you know how much length you had with yours? I am guessing I can splice in some more cable between the battery and connector to the motor or simply replace the existing cable.

Hey guys I finally got my frame mounted plastic battery box from NMEBIKEs on aliexpress. This is my second time ordering from him and each time he's come through.

He also listened to my instructions to include the charge cable connector without charger. I also got 13 pieces of 4p cell holders. The whole case literally can only hold 52 cells... not sure how to squeeze a regular BMS. It would DEFINITELY need to be a tiny tiny BMS. Packaging was excellent. The case was double wrapped in bubble/foam.

The whole box needs a lot of work. Simple because there's no wires included with some systems and no diagrams.

Now here's the kicker. I can buy Sony VTC5 here stateside for about $9-10, which are 2600mah and better than the Samsung 25R, but I won't be able to have supowerbattery111 tab weld them for me. So I'm in a big dilemma. Next problem is, even if supowerbattery111 tabs welds her Samsung 25R batteries for me, they aren't going to be sized correct in my opinion to these cell spacer/holders. The spacing is real small, I'd say 0.5mm.

Oh, guys, i think we should start a new thread about this battery build with this package. So I'll start it. Perhaps teslanv can help me out and we can all contribute to the new thread!!

this is exactly what i need.

im going to order the same battery case from NNEbike, and building the battery pack myself.. but since this is my very first time building it. i want to gather all the informations i can find before i buy the necessary parts..

i've few questions, and i hope someone with experienced battery builder can help me :

1. The case have 2 switches keylock switch and button switch (with LED), from what i know the led switch should power on / off the BMS. so whenever i want to use / charging the battery it should be in on posisition, otherwise it wont work.. is this correct ?
and, about the keylock switch, what does it do ? if i switch the keylock to off position will i be able to switch on the LED switch ?
or the keylock only serves as locking mechanism to secure the box to the frame bracket ?

2. To make use of the LED switch, do i need custom made BMS ? or i could use any BMS ?
from the picture above, it seems the BMS is not custom made.. can someone tell me which cable on the BMS that connect to the switch ?
ussually BMS only have 3 big cable ( dicharge -, charge -, and battery -) and lots of small cables for leveling the V of each cells.

3. as for USB module, can i use LM2596HVS based module (60V input to 5V ouput) ?
are the LED switch also powered by this module ?

btw, here's some diagram i received from NNEbikes on how to build the packs..

thanks
