Anyone tried EM3EV new bottle mount batteries?

What are you using for waterproof power connectors? EM3ev and Lectric use different parts. (And different brake and throttle levers) Looks like I'm going to learn just a bit more. What's my best parts source for your choice? I want to swap batteries between bikes.

I don't really have any waterproof protection per say. The case itself doesn't have any rubber seals around it. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think any of these batteries that are sold are marketed as water proof. My advice to myself would be, check the weather to see if it's gonna rain. When I go outside and it looks gloomy, I always check weather.com to make sure if there's going to be a chance of drizzle. Anything greater than 10% chance of rain, I park my e-bike and just take the car. Or better yet, keep the battery pack at home.

The connectors that came with my EM3EV battery seem pretty waterproof to me. I am swapping my out for Anderson PowerPoles and will position them so the not directly exposed to rain. I am not expecting any serious issues. I notice also that ebikes.ca use them so for me that is a pretty good reason to go with them.

They look similar to the connections used for the speedo. Would they handle the amps okay?

Don't know. My next lesson. I've found a source but no answer on wire spec. More new territory for me.

Edit, another massive brain fart for me. I don't need to have common connectors to rotate batteries. DOH! I woke up understanding. WOW! I hope it at least generated some laughs. Good reason to eat healthy boys and avoid a stroke. It definitely addles the brain.

Surely if you shrink wrap the pack itself and all the connections, it will be fine even if a drop of water gets in?

Yes, some black silicone caulk at the centre seam would go a long way towards increasing water resistance without ruining the nice look of the pack.

Some of the entry points could also be partially weatherproofed by adding silicone on the backside of the keyswitches, charge ports etc.

I've been looking around at watt meters for a while for one that I could mount with the battery pack and came across this little unit.

Its the perfect size to sit neatly in the space where the pack handle is.
My thought is to open the pack and remove the handle then slot the meter in its place, it should be easy enough to wire it up.

My problem is how to waterproof it and mount it securely?

I got one of those, its the crappiest watt meter ever! It doesn't show the useful stuff like Ah or Wh or Wp and it gets pretty bloody hot, my screen is all faded by its heat and I leave it in a pretty roomy EM3 triangle bag with the zip open a bit. And if it gets hot easily that mean it sucks power good and it has... Looking back it was completely silly but I did a fresh cell log test on my whole pack to graph all cells and get an accurate map of the health of my pack, did it with no BMS attached and at the same time had some serious personal life issues to attend left that very watt meter attached and it sucked the whole pack dry when I came back to it a few weeks later, some cells were 0 and couldn't be recovered under any circumstance.

I am not blaming the wattmeter but it is a crap one... Also by "default/switch on" it only shows the crappy tiny CH1 (8.4V/10A max) plug wired input and you have to repeatably hit the tiny hard to press select button to go to the main CH2(large wire input) meter view. There were a few other things that annoyed me about this meter but I kind of forget now as I dont use it, some of its other features are kind of baloney like its MaxAmps is useless cos it always just shows 35A when u first turn on your pack and never changes, the alarm feature is baloney as well.
This meter almost seems to be almost deliberately designed to inflict maximum pain on unsuspecting buyers.

I bought one and just received it last week. 48v 8.4Ah (13S4P using Samsung 22P cells) with the matching 2A charger.

Haven't had the chance to do anything with it yet besides a discharge test at 10A (just over 1C).
It performed exactly as advertised giving 8.7Ah and 396Wh



First impressions are:

• Fits in quite small frame triangles & has flexible mounting positions on the frame's bidon cage mounts
• It looks vastly better than any of the 'bottle batteries'. I'm not really into the silver dildo on the downtube look.
• Not waterproof - cover it with a plastic bag for anything other than a short light drizzle
• Matching charger is nosier than the common HiPower chargers which come with many turn-key ebikes.

I can post some photos and more thoughts later if anyone's interested.

Box bms and controller all available separately now from bmsb. There samsungs are not these though. They are not even branded.

As for holding to the frame, I've used a hose clap at the top and cut one in half/ drilled an extra hole in the bottom part of the mount and used it on the bottom of that. With foam between the frame (rounded) and the mount (idiotically flat) the tension applied by the hose clamps prevent slippage (handy inner tube on the inside of each hose clamp) and is pretty good on their own. However also used the two bottle cage mounts as well for extra stability (not really required, but why not). This takes the pressure off the bottle cage mounts a bit so they hopefully will not pull out of the frame.

kinda a shame really as it would have been a much neater finish with a frame to mount rubber mould.. meh.

As for waterproofing, Paul has recommended silicon on the joins and permanently plugging the unused (now used by the other bolt holding a hose clamp) hole at the bottom of the mount. However I'm going to try ghetto spec as soon as a workmate gets back from Singapore - shower cap over the entire battery!

And a butchered snap lock bag over the screen...

I could part the case a little, and smear the flange with silicone. The handle recess has drainage holes by design. However I don't care if it gets wet. The design is sound. What are people trying to keep dry?
The controller part has a rubber seal which needs modification, as ingress can't leave. This I siliconed.

I bought mine from BMS battery and when I take it out of the mount and shake it, I hear something rattling around inside. It hasn't cased any problems, but it's very annoying. :x

Yeah, it's normal, I've also experienced that an two different boxes. It could be locking mechanism.
