Aprilia Enjoy

$1425 for the other on ebay! Gsus did I get a steal at $220!

Ditched the battery for now - found a really cheap 12v 20 amp power supply to feed the Turnigy charger.

But the battery will be back soon with three others in parallel - my solar setup is nearly finished.

Anyone see what the last bike went for on weebay?

I think the person who bid $1425 was very motivated to get the bike.I didn't see the end of the auction but I bet he got it.That was probably mare than the seller paid for the bike in the first place.
I bought both of my bikes on ebay several years ago and I got one of them for $900 and the other one for about $1100.

Hi guys, just to change the topic somewhat, what weather today  82kph head wind ALL the way home from work, mostly in 2nd gear and some in 1st  To be honest, I could have gone faster mostly but the bike was getting blown all over the place and I had to dodge fallen branches.

home trip 7.5km in 25 minutes, round trip 15km and used 5.660Ah 178.9Wh (so not too bad), but it's weather like this that has me thinking about a 40A controller. Anyone know where I can get one?

Cheers,
GT

Hi GT,

I googled and got this. Not sure if of any help
http://www.ebikeforum.com/electric-bike-scooter/70666-just-installed-36v-40amp-co
I cut and copied it but it doesn't come up as a link. What am I not doing?

Cheers,
Tony.

I forget which voltage you are using. TNC scooters have a nice suite of controllers that make it easy to compare. Their YK controllers havent let me down so far.

http://www.tncscooters.com/YK43B.php

THis YK43 seems to have impressive current specs, and no LV cutout. I wonder how it would go. I guess it's cheap as it includes the throttles (I think). Their ebay prices and postage are usually cheaper.

On a side note, the Koorie kids I went to school with/fished with in SW victoria said there was a fifth season in southern Australia- two weeks long at the end of September - the 'September Storms'. I recall that most years they were right.

Thanks guys, but ...

The YK43-B (in 24V version) has a 30A upper limit which is the same as mine, but as the board is not "potted" (like mine is) a bit of solder on the shunt will "up" that. The 36V would be okay, but it's LVC is 31.5V which is too high for my 8S (nominal 29.6V). The YK42 may be okay though. I found a page with all the YiYun controllers here

I am over the wind now :D but I might buy one as a spare (given I can't find the one I already have). And September is always windy down south :( especially in Windy-alla

Cheers,
GT

Hey off on a tangent (please): how do you guys lock your Aprilias? I have been using a cable thru the rear of the frame near the rear wheel mounting point. Can't come up with any other other point to chain these guys down. Any other ideas?

G'day Samd,

I live in a small seaside town where there is little crime.I have got a couple of locks for my bikes but they are more a token deterrent than good security.I got them at the bike shop.Part A is attached to the seat post with a nylon strap and part B is the cable that locks into that.I pass the cable through a wrought iron fence at work and then through the other part on the seat post. All it would take is a blade to cut through the nylon strap and the bike would be gone.So far noone has tampered with the "locks"

Another Racing version on ebay in Vic

He's the guy who has had one on gumtree for awhile if I recall...

Latest ebay one didnt sell at 850, he's relisted at 800. He had it on gumtree for 1450 I think.
I would love it at 400, but my wife would kill me if I had a third.
One for the mistress? :p

He wont get $800 for it.He would be much better to start at $300 and have an auction. He has little description of the bike which is not a good selling point.I am waiting for one to come up for sale down here in the vicinity of the south coast of NSW.I will be waiting for quite a while I expect.

I finally took the plunge and ordered a third 8s 5.8 amphr pack, one of the shorter turnigy 4by2 format ones. It fits in the left over space in battery box with 15mm to spare. I had two of the long format ones prior. Cant wait to ride tomoz. Photo on my blog, cant post here from android...

well done mate.Just when I think my old NMH battery is dead it just keeps going.I will enjoy following your footsteps SAMD when it does finally die.

Cheers,
Tony.

Hi Guys,

I am finally going to order the 3 Turnigy batteries from Hobbyking.I am going to follow in Samd's footsteps and get the 2 long 8s lipo's and the shorter square 8s .Hobbyking recommended this charger.Does this sound like the go? as far as charger/balancers go? I need you advice please guys as I know buggerall about this subject.I have read and reread articles on lipo batteries and it still goes in one ear and comes straight out the other.

Here is the charger they suggested http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11597

Cheers,
Tony.

did you read the reviews on that charger ?
..there appear to be a lot of disappointed buyers ! ..but that is a risk with any HK charger it seems ( i have had 2 fails !)
Also, do you need such a powerful ( expensive ) charger ?, and what will you use as a power supply ?
( a 1000w charger is no good without a 1000+w PSU !)
I would think this through a little before committing that much $$$'s on a HK charger !

Thanks HH,

Yes,I have read some of the reviews and I was a bit alarmed about them being so unreliable and even catching fire.I haven't understood the "power supply'" side of things. Can you explain that.Do I need to get a power supply other than the good old 240v?
If these lipo's weren't so light and deliver the goods I would be tempted to stick with the NMH.

Cheers,
Tony.

Strewth. That costs more than half my more recent aprilia! :p
I just use this:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7523__Turnigy_Accucel_8_150W_7A_Balancer_Charger.html
powered by one of these:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-20A-Regulated-Switching-Power-Supply-Universal-240W-/110778613342?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19caeb7e5e

I pretty much only bulk charge unless i discharge >80%
I recently did my monthly balance charge check. Didnt need it.
Took a long ride with other melbourne ebikers and discharged my pack to 29.7 volts, so will be interesting to do a balance check next week.

I used a lot more power than the brushless units, but lots of comment about the quietness of the aprilia....
