I know controllers are interchangeable my question is are ebike display switches interchangeable. Could I use the switch or should I say display control buttons from this display and connect it to another display or are they specific to the display.

Could I swap the KT standard black two button controller with another, I mean change the control button on the handle bar by cutting it of and replacing with another button. I would like to use the button from the 860C bafang display I've enclosed a photo.

Depends on the design of the systems.
If the switches are wired as individual completely-separately-wired momentary switches on both, then you just wire up the appropriate switch to the appropriate wire pair on the other unit.
If the switches use a common point, then as long as that's the same on boht (both ground, or both 5v, etc) then again it's as simple as wiring the apropriate points together.
If they are wired differently, you'd have to make cuts on the PCB to isolate the switches as needed and rewire from there.
If there are any electronics in there beyond the switches, then depending on what they are and how they alter the operation, you may have to alter the replacement unit to match, etc.
So....you'd either have to open each unit up, or do electrical continuity testing with each button in each state on both units to find out what they actually do, and which wires are used for each switch or function.

Wow thank you for the reply so let's say the LCD3 KT display for example has 5 wires red black blue yellow green. And the donor buttons from the bafang 860C are also the same color could I presume they are compatible. Or am I in way above my head I'm just exploring the possibilities.
I think there are 5 conductors between the controller and display, and 4 conductors between the display and buttons.
No, unless you already know what the specifics of the wiring and electronics, etc inside the switch unit of each separate switch unit is, and you already know they are identical, you have to test, as stated in my first reply.
It's much safer to assume that wire color means nothing, because that is often true, and assuming they match has destroyed a lot of electronics for many people.
