That looks like a good solid donor bike for a hub motor.
Rigid steel mountain bikes of that vintage are my favourite rides.
But, you want forged steel dropouts, about 6mm thick for the axles, not stamped stamped dropouts.
It you go with a front hub you can mount the batteries at the rear.
If you go with a rear hub you can mount the batteries in the main triangle.

Looks like decent candidate;

consider this for a low cost assist up hills;

i did saw some friction type off powerd bike before somewhere on the net.

Seeing your from the great white north i wouldnt suggest a friction drive
as the first choice, they are poor performers in wet and dirty conditions.
Forget riding in the rain or on unsealed roads...Maybe if you gave us an idea of how
much money your wanting to spend and members can then better help you..

thanks AussieJester

you did put a little heads up here wit that comment.

mabe a hub motor then.

budget ok mabe bet 200 and 300$ max.cdn$...less would be better taugh :oops: :lol: .

I doubt you will get a setup worth having for that much money buddy, batteries alone will use most of that budget i think.

Second hand or possibly EBay might be your best bet...

Best of luck

I wouldn't even bother with attempting to make an ebike with that much money. You will end up with a sub-par kit, and after you realize how much fun it is, you'll have to buy all new stuff to make the bike how you want it anyways. Much cheaper to do it right the first time.

this kit is not to expensive..around 400$

there must be at 300$ in specieal somewhere.

its fun to look for cheap stuff..that is why i am a garage sale addict..hahaha find some bike so cheap

will keep looking no hurry here.

joco................thanks guys/gals. for comment

Izip.
It was a bike walmart sold for a while, $300 new, bike, motor, batteries. Noisy as all hell, slow, and not too much range but a solid preformer. Their newer version is a lot more money, though.

it used a Currie motor driving through a gear on the left side of the axle. parts can be found for them so you could convert yours for under $300.

I'd watch Craigslist.com for an electric bike, though.
