Deecanios first build the "DC1"

If no one else wants one, I'll order two, too :)

It probably makes more sense for shipping costs alone, to order 4.

I don't have an immediate need, but they look as if they'll come in handy, sometime...

LOL, ok mate - i'll come back to you later on once they reply.

Cheers,

anyone help me out stateside lol ????????

Cheers,

Hi D,

Just noticed this post. I'd be happy to place an order for whatever you want and send it on. I'm not sure if that will help. I'm in California (94930) so there would be shipping to CA and then from CA to UK. You can probably figure out the shipping costs online and see if this helps you. I know that shipping to Canada Fed Ex and UPS charge a customs brokerage fee but the U.S. Postal Service doesn't.

You can get the USPS rates here:
http://www.usps.com/

BTW how did reducing the size of your rear wheel effect handling?

Hi MitchJi,

thank you for the generous offer mate, that's really good of you :)
As it turned out Miles was good enough to come in with me and we ordered 4 (not here yet mate) which just about covered the minimum order. hehehe, miles isn't sure yet what he's doing with his yet but i reckon he may have a secret project in mind :?: or maybe he plans to hold me to ransom for them when i crush my two
In answer to your question the handling was pretty good, the front end did tend to slide under slight duress but i think that could have been more to do with the 30lbs of batts and more importantly the position of them, oh and not forgetting thats on leafy forest floor too!! Other than that it really was fine - those bmx rims can take some beats for sure, shame my hub couldn't  i did have the shortened crank arms tho mind for clearence and it still was a bit more more of an issue than a standard mtb, other than that it was fine and dont be surprised if i revisit 20's soon too ;)

cheers

Son of a bitch.... that's like James Bond stealth! You're putting the rest of us to shame man...

Hi Dc

Wow that looking nice, I was wondering what was happening with the bike as it seems to have been a while since you posted anything, Steve has done an amazing job on the battery box, really nice, looks super stealthy and will pack quite a punch, is the controller hidden in the box as well?

Looking forward to a few videos of it and you in action when you get it done, looks like summer has come late as well so you should be able to get out there for a few rides!!

Knoxie

Thanks for the compliments Deec, it was easy (NOT!):) Controller is mounted in the top of the box, also in there are 10s6p A123 cells and 2 LVC circuits.
Hi Paul, Deec and I were talking about you the other day...we guessed you were about to amaze us with another KnoxBike?

Get that thing finished and in the woods Andy!

Steve

Hi Steve

Seriously nice job on that mate, thats a very sellable box!! for those that have the money but not the time or the skills!! be great to see it in action before it gets too muddy in those woods.

I am still tinkering away here, got a few things lined up of course! I have a Lemco motor sat here that may get a run out before I give it back to its owner, I want to power up my little folding bike for a bit of fun, I have some NIMH laying about that will be just the ticket.

Great job on the jozzbike as well, just watched all of Andys videos, they are so cool!! very professional as well almost like one of those shows on UK living where each week he renovates a bike or makes a helicopter.

must all get together some time, esp if you are going to sell the Jozzbike must have a go on that before it goes!!

Cheers

Knoxie

Your welcome to come try it anytime Knoxie. If you miss out though, Jozzbike 2 will be a Ducati with twice the power...your equally as welcome to come try that!
We were going to try to get one of the Optibikes here for a head to head with Deecanio's bike, perhaps we could all get together for that?

Steve

Hi Mate

Yes I would be up for that, that would be great! just need to keep an eye on the forecast and pick a nice day, I am busy for the next couple of weekends but after that should be ok, hopefully I should be able to give the Opti and Deec a very good run for their money! ha ha 8) I wont however be going off road

Yes the jozz bike or the Ducati im easy!! they both look like great machines, wont be long before you start the Ducati then? cant wait to see that take shape on here, be sure to let us all know when you start it.

Cheers

Knoxie

Hi D,

Very nice :D

When you get a chance I'd like some more information about the battery box construction.

Also please let us know how the 24" tires compare with the 20".

Hi All,

thanks for the very kind comments, i have to say again that the box is pure genius and all steves work 8)

that'll be me then mate
i do my best with the bike components/mechanics and the prettying but i wouldn't have a bike like this if it was'nt for the support and help i get here :)

voicecoils,

yes, its a blinder, 2mm aluminium allround case with removable side cover, inside steves done me 60 A123 cells in a 10s6p setup (will be running 66v initially) ,all heat shrinked and snug as a bug.this is the exact pack i had in mind when i first bought the kona about a year ago - i bought the largest (19") frame i could with that geometry and believe me the 60 cells and xlyte fit well, but i wouldnt get any more in :)
Also in the box are 2 of steves LVC boards which can be unplugged so that i can put my balancer on the same connectors, nice, and of course the xlyte controller.the controller is mounted to the roof of the box and has been de-shelled from its original housing for cooling and space.

pwbset,

looooooooool    thank you.

Mitchji,

sure no problem, steve took pictures all along the journey so i'll post them up when i get a chance.

Knoxie,joz,

thanks for all the support since i first wheeled out the dc1 test bike, wouldn't have this bike if it wasnt for you guys
im up for an end of season meeting any time you guys can make it - i have an inlaw visit this weekend but after that im free pretty much. Have kona, will travel 8)
Steve if you fancy a meet can i suggest yours maybe? if bob could come and me and knoxie that could be cool?
whatever im there, gimme a week or two and the bike should be raceable errr i mean rideable :)
I've popped some comments on the photos now so that will help explain better where im at at the mo - im hoping to work on the bike during the week for a ride as soon as but it will depend on the torque arm/rear brake situation really and how long it takes to sort out, i have a plan but im waiting for the arms to dry so i can finish the mechanics, then cable tidy and we are set 8)
i'll get some video as soon as i can, maybe second ride ;)

cheers all,

D

Can you please take the side off the box and take a picture for us :)

And how do you go with the single speed rear? Are you able to pedal effectively?

Hi Mark,

yes i'll post a good ful side shot with the cover off soon as i get chance to take one, im rushong to finish so i can get a few rides in but should have it for you at the weekend hopefully.
the single speed freewheel is good as gold, i could have had a dished hub and cassette but why bother, as i said the motor accelerates way to quick to piss about with 27 gears :), 3 is the magic number here for me. i have riden it under pedal power only (pre box fitting), all three front chainrings select well and the deraileur keeps things in check as far as alignment is concerned, the derailuer just drops the chain as the frewheel picks it up, not much room for error there, coming from running 32front to 17rear to having 30/42/52front 15rear is great, i have a smooth three gears that work out i need to change gear at approx 7mph,15mph topping out in 3rd at about 23/5 mph, perfect for my ride but maybe would not be good enough on a roadbike?

Cheers,

D

Hi All,

i don't have the side picture in full yet but here's the shots steve took for us whilst building the box and pack, i'll get the side shot when i cable but you get the jist of the magic box here, i may not give too good a technical account of all the kit but tbh i left all that complex stuff to Jozzer :) enjoy.

Cheers

D

Hi Deec

Some great photos there mate, thanks for posting them up and to Steve for taking them, the build looks great! looking forward to seeing the side cover off pictures but would prefer the bike moving report and video first! you got to get it sorted for the weekend and get out there, the weather is looking really good for Friday in to the weekend.

Its nice to see a proper job done on the battery box as well, so many folks dont spend the time or money like this and whilst what they make is normally functional they look pretty dreadful esp the ones made of wood, wood just shouldn't be on a bike IMHO  also when you are spending so much on high end batteries it makes no sense to penny pinch on the enclosure for them, so this will hopefully kickstart a few similar ones, I myself will be looking at something similar to get those batteries off the rack as they really bugger the handling of the bike up.

Good luck with getting it finished, I think its very close between you and miles for the best looking & performing home built e-bike in the UK.

Knoxie

Hey Y,

good to see ya :) yeh steve did a masterclass in batt storage alright, im very please with the finish.
looking forward to hooking it up and having a rip any day now, my firm have given me weds and thurs off but i have to work midnight weds through 9am thurs in return. it'll work for me as im bound to sneak some bike work in during one of the days :)

Hey knoxie,

yes indeed mate i need to ride now and post later :) im hoping and praying that i can get finished to a rideable state by the weekend, the last coat of smoothrite went on my missing parts today soon as i got back from work so im set to build again tomorrow, but as i said to Y i have to work all night so i have to be sensible, bit tomorrow, more on thursday and i may just get finished for the weekend, i have my inlaws staying over but i may just sneak a ride too ;)
Thanks for the compliments mate  to compare mine to Miles's bike really is quite flattering (damn your elegant machine miles !!! lol).
believe it or not i actually want to make one more change over winter, but we'll save that for later :)

Cheers,

D

Oooh, she's looking good Andy. Bet your dying to have a thrash!

Thanks for the compliments guys, I just built it to Deec's specifications and used a little common sense (when available).

On the battery box front, I'd like to point out that making ally boxes is really not so hard. (he says after weeks and weeks of stress trying to get this one done!)

Turns out, if you set a mig welder up just right, you can weld 2mm Ally very easily. I've turned out 2 good boxes this weekend with a £250 Mig welder with £50's of upgrades. It's ridiculously easy and quick when you get the knack, and it doesn't take long to get useable results. Get to it lads, it's a great way to warm the garage up in the winter
