Ebike Overhaul with MXUS

I’m considering getting the MXUS XF40-30H motor with a Z916 plug to replace the one I have now. My current motor is an unknown brand, but it can be pushed pretty hard with the right controller. Under good conditions—tailwind, smooth road, and a slick rear tire—I’ve managed to reach 66 kph.

The motor is rated at 1,000 watts, and I’m running it with a controller that peaks at 45A. The problem is the wire harness: it’s a single fixed length that connects directly to the controller, which makes removing the wheel to change a tire or tube a major hassle.

I thought about splicing in a Z916 plug, but I’m not sure if the pinout would match both the motor phase wires and the Hall sensor wires. On top of that, the axle is already a little chewed up, so a replacement seems like the better option.

Thoughts ? This a good motor, or is there something better ?
 
I'd convert to ~4mm bullet connectors and some JSTs for halls ( or whatever you like ). The Z916 plug will probably not handle 45A battery ( 90A - 125A phase current )

This motor could easily be used at 2000w peak, 1000w continuous. There's of course better motors out there, but do you need a better one?

I’ve been digging into this, from what I’ve gathered, the 4mm bullet connectors are mostly used with 12AWG wire (some 10AWG). I’ve been looking at beefing up my phase wires. My plan was to slit the sheath, of the motor cable, and tease out the phase wires. This would leave the hall wires in the motor plug. Of course the same would have to be done on the controller side, but it would be a clean connection for the hall sensor wires.
 
No drop outs are fine. just just a threads have seen better days. as for as for using bullet connectors, stay away. swap out with Anderson. Much better to use.

I personally cut an inch out the axle. I'm OK to accept a extra resistance in the last 5% of the wire for a huge reduction in that remaining 95%.

I like that method. I read the article SpinningMagnets wrote about this. Definitely worth it to NOT be running that gauge wire through the axle. I'd never those through there. I've seen other users do this as well. I also like the method he described to solder the thick phase wires. The wire wrap looks very solid.
