El Steak Super-Commuter

This BBQ thermometer have no auto shut off ( this is great!)

it work with a single AAA battery and work for a year no prob.

The alarm is a piezo stylew and i can hear it with my full face during offroad at 40kph.. but on the road with trafic noise it'S a bit difficult but i can heat it.

Anyway, when i overload that X5 i just keep a eye on the meter to ensure nothing will blow.

Definitively one of the best buy i did for 8$ ( with occasionally rebate).. normally 14$

what is nice is that it measure from the ambiant temp up to 500F i think.

it sem to be waterproof cause i occasionally use that ebike with rain and never had any problem with.. and the LCD is clean.

Thanks Doc,

I'm having a new 9x7 laced in a 24" wheel by johnrobholmes. Sounds like I'm going to switch to that Canadian Tire thermometer when I open up that new motor to upgrade the phase wires and "ventilate" it...

Too bad I already ordered 2 more of those ebay BBQ thermometer. I guess I'm going to use them on my BBQ ! hummm steaks.... :p

El Steak,

Did you go with the 9C 9x7 motor? What difference do you expect between the 26 and 24 inch wheels with your 18s pack?

Dave

I'm having the wheels built by forum member johnrobholmes. The motor is a 9x7 in a 24" wheel. I also ordered a matching 24" front wheel. Maybe that will be the first front and rear 24" tidal force on the forum?

It will take a little while before I get the wheel set; parts must be ordered, the wheels built and shipped here in Canada. Once I get them, I have to change the phase wires and ventilate the hub. I don't think I'll be riding it before next month.

I also ordered 3 extra 6s LiPo packs from Hobby King. So my permanent setup will be 24s3p. This should be good for some nice acceleration and a top speed around 80kph.

I'll probably try to sell locally my 26" wheel set with the 10x6 motor. Its a great setup at 72 volts, but too fast at 100 volts.

You will get 80 kph on 24 inch Maxis with 9x7 9C and 24s Lipo. I have the same setup and have seen 45 mph with my 18 fet ecrazyman controller. I have gotten mine up to 93 degrees C. I have yet to find a situation where I can run WOT for more than a minute or so. You will have to be careful with this setup. It will buck you off if you are not easy with the throttle on startup. I can lift the front wheel at will!

Glad you bumped this thread, I have never seen it before. Great bike and a great first post with lots of info.

you can also upgrade the front system brake for a hydraulic haynes like mine you will see what am talking about when you apply the brake :D :D

nice build its look almost my norco sasquash set up , for my infineon controller I just let him on the top of my hard case and its enougth

I don't say your cooling is not good for the controller but i see you only have 1/2 inch of cleareance between the wheel and soon you will see rock grindind the controller

so we have almost the same set up except my have 26 inch wheel and top speed will be 65 kph running 100 volt on my 2807

I finally took some pictures of my bike with all the upgrades I made during the summer.

I rode the bike daily in that configuration for around 2500km this summer and I didn't have a single failure in any of my commute, not even a flat tire ! (thank you kevlar liners).

This setup is a 9c 2807 in 24" wheels running off 24s Lipo on my Methods 100V 100A controller.

The bike is obviously slower than the 2806 in 26" wheels at 100V hot (75km/h vs 80+km/h) but its fast enough for my commute and way more efficient than the 2806 which was almost unusuable at 100V (it would get way too hot way too fast).

That being said, the 2806 in a 26" wheel running at 18s LiPo (75V hot) was pretty close in terms of performance and efficiency and knowing that I'm not sure I would go through all the expenses and trouble I did to get to 100V.

As usual, all the specs and details are in the pictures.

Great looking setup Steak!

Where did you pick up the rain hood? Also, what type of helmet are you using?

Thanks,
Ambrose

Hi EL_Steak,

I didn't see any room left to cooking steak on this ebike like a light BBQ, and you really need a wiper for your sun glasses at theses speeds  seriously amazing work and your mirrors are really cool I love them.

Good day and take care!

The rain coat is direct from China. One of my coworker is from China and she brought this back from a trip there last year. No idea if you can find it locally.

The helmet is a "Mace", no idea which model, I got it on sale for 50$.

The bike is now in the basement for the winter. I started taking the bus again today... for the next 5 months :(

I'm still riding... but Daaaaaaaaaaaaaam. it's cold in the morning !!! .. -7 celcius tonight !...

I go until the snow falls and they start to salt the roads... saving 60$ a week for a long as i can... then the frickin taxi's and Bus's.....

Yep its freaking cold. When I can't feel my ass for 10 minutes after getting off the bike, it means its over for me

I noticed that the Lipo pack is affected as well, I've observed reduced capacity in the freezing weather. It does "bounce back" quite a bit after its parked in the warm garage for an hour though (goes up from about 92.5V to 93.5V)

thanks guys.

The mirror with the irregular shape is a "Cat Eye BM500G"

Got it here for 8$: http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=2326

The other mirror was in my bike parts bin and I can't remember where it came from. I went through a few mirrors before I settled on these. Problem was that at 70km/h +, the mounts were not rigid enough and the mirrors would tilt backwards. I constantly had to re-adjust the mirrors which was annoying and distracting. The mounts on those are tight enough so the mirrors stay in position.

yes its cold when you live in quebec!! and i and will run my ebike this winter !! i just go outside and try my skidoo suit and i don't feel any wind!! the only day I don't ride its when we have snow on the road so i have to wait 2 days until they clean everything i only have 10 ah lipo pack i will need another one soon because in the snow its eat lot of current

Again.. that cold weather problem :(

Every winter coming i question me about What should i do to continu comuting to the job by any EV way for cheap and keep the same safety or better!

These snow track board i found could be one solutioin..

But often i think about an ebike desing that wold use very wide tires and small in diameter and a setup that is really simple and that is perfectly sealed...

also ... using A123 cells for keeping great efficiency on cold temp..

it might be a normal single front suspension ebike with A123 battery in the triangle, with one of my cheap imitation of 400 serie crystalyte hub motor and normal 35A controller

I mean keeping that basic!! = less failure with all these cold temp stress

and the possibility of making a heater for the battery and some way to heat my gloves...

Well.. still in my head.. w'll see!

Do you have extra torque plate. I like your design of the torque plate and I have Ebikekit's torque arm but it seems not fit on my new building Tidalforce dropout due washer gap cause the torque arm farther away from the dropout arm. Here I attached the picture give you better idea. I afraid go fast 40+ mph without the torque plate or arms in rear 9C motor.

I custom made the torque arms, I don't have any extra. There pretty easy to do, all you need to do this is a decent jigsaw with a metal blade, a drill press, a file and a fairly thick steel plate (I "recycled" a lawnmower blade for those).

lawn mower's blade? OK I will look some junkyard and I will have to buy jigsaw. Thanks
