Does anyone have any input on the ElitePowerSolutions batteries vs the Ping batteries. According to the Elite site they have free shipping in the U.S. and seem to have cheaper prices. They do not say that they include a BMS (Ping does) but do include a charger like the Ping.

HEY COLD-E: I will let you know in about a month, I just bought 72volt 40amph worth of TS battries and a charger at what I think is a good price and i am considering buying a 48volt 40amphr set of the (blue GBS battries) that does come with a BMS sytem and the GBS 40amphr battries are able to do 3C thats 120 amps contionus and 48x40 comes to 1920 watts. and its free shipping and a little cheeper than ping. I have 2 48volt 20amphr CAMMY-CC battries and i would like to get away from a battery that has 288 cells thats just asking for trouble. and the TS and GBS battries can be replaced by almost anyone,I would hate to have to tear into one of these battries actually i would just sell it or give it to someone else to fix. Don't get me wrong about ping i have thought long and hard about buying from ping and he has perfect customer service. hard choice. good day COOPER.

BTW COLD GO BACK AND LOOK AT THE SINGLE 12 VOLT TS 20AMPHR BATTRIES AT $104.00 EACH WITH FREE SHIPPING THATS $416.00 FOR 48VOLT NOW THATS IS A BARGIN.

A bargain with no bms. For me it was a no brainer to just buy another ping, since I own one already, and all my bikes are set up to carry one. So all my stuff still works, and I get a reliable battery with charger and bms.

With a reliable bms, I can cheerfully ride a lot further knowing I can ride till the bms trips if I choose to.

The shipping ain't free but it isn't expensive either, was ~8% for me. The ping comes with a good bms and decent charger included in the price. I know some people have had success with just using the thundersky batteries with just a 12v automotive smart charger but if you get their charger and their balancers it will be more costly, but then you get free shipping. Their balancers just look like a circuit to put a very tiny load on each cell when it gets to 3.7 volts. No Low voltage cutoff and no amp limit which I think is a double - since they aren't rated 20CA constant or anything. If you want to protect the batteries on discharge you'll need to supply your own if you are using close to the capacity and want maximum life.

I got 2 12v to go in my mower and to try out because they are a perfect fit, cheap and if I get stranded pushing my mower around the yard I still gotta push it back to the shed anyhow :p I plan on individually charging each cell and having a LVC and an ampmeter to watch draw. It'll also be the test pack on my bike but when I get a permanent pack I'm leaning away from the elitepowersolutions.

I think the best bet is to add a signalab bms to the elite power solutions battery, i.e. for my case 48V 20 ah battery would run

$104 X 4 + $ 18 ship + $100 bms = $534 ish.

I paid about $800 for my Ping with 5 amp charger, but had to do duct tape surgery/soldering twice. I still only get 60% capacity from this battery but am loathe to open the thing up again.

The large format cells and the bolt on connections are very attractive from that perspective. The disadvantage I see is the heavier weight 26 vs 20 lbs and larger physical dimensions to deal with.

The battery referenced in the elite power solutions link you provided has NO BMS or voltage clamp.
Yup, it's just four series wired 20ah cells in a standard 12v 17ah (this one is rated 20ah) package.

You're way far ahead with Ping. You receive a complete package, with a HV/LV cutoff BMS with charger. Not to mention real support.

With elitepowersolutions you get parts with no safeguards against overcharge/ keeping cells in balance / low voltage cutoff.

May I ask where you got the info that these are only 17ah cells? I have had them for a year now (2 - 12v packs = 8 cells) and I think your 100% wrong. They are 20ah cells rated at 2C discharge and 3C chrage rate.

In my opinion they are a very good cell but they do not have a BMS.......... so all you have to do is add one if you want one. These packs are a steal at only $104 and yes I believe that is including FREE shipping in the 48 states. http://elitepowersolutions.com/products/product_info.php?cPath=16&products_id=74 One of the best things is there already here in the US so shipping is quick and easy.

THIS IS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE OUTSIDE THE CASE. THE CELL CONNECTOR WIRES COME WITH THEM

I bought TS batteries from evcomponents.com. Used 24 of the 100ah cells in my car (before the controller blew). At the time, they had better pricing than elitepowersoutions but I haven't been to Elite in a while...

I am using mine on me trikes so plenty of room, but the good part is if one cell go bad thay are easy to change no so with other packs and if you get the new balancers and keep an eye on the batterys thay should be good for a long time, If i was running on a bicycle i might opt. for ping but with trikes is easy because of room and you can always add a ping type BMS later. :) :)

Everyone going around talking about free shipping on the $104 packs is making it awkward for people like me who go and order them and find out they don't have free shipping unless you buy a "package" that includes their charger and not the package that is 4 cells in a package like container.
I believe the "Yup, it's just four series wired 20ah cells in a standard 12v 17ah (this one is rated 20ah) package." just means that the $104 pack y'all are talking about is a drop in replacement for a lead acid 12v 17ah cell which it is. That is what I'm buying mine for to fit inside the same footprint. I'm hoping it'll nearly double my usable capacity since the lead acid gives no where near 17ah when burned through in a half hour or so. I do plan on trying them out on the bike too if they work well but if I was buying straight for the bike i'd be leaning towards a ping even though it would be miserable to fix if there was a cell problem which leads me back to headway and around and around

Definitely tempting to buy the 104 buck batteries, and then wire em up to a signalab bms. I agree, if a cell goes bad, you can just bolt in a new one. With a ping, it's some PITA soldering to fix it.

But bolted connections do have their own set of disadvantages. A loose terminal or some corrosion can cause one to undercharge, and then it's bye bye cell the next time you ride it unless you have a bms to stop the overdischarge.

Hard to say which system works best for connecting the cells. My first ping has and continues to perform so flawlessly that I personally had no problems with paying a bit more to get another. By now though, I've rode so many miles saving so much money that the bit of extra cost is no big deal to me now. I'm pretty positve that 2000 miles later I'll have a paid for itself battery to use for another 8000-12000 miles.

I am building a special long stretch xetracycle type rear suspension bicycle useing the front frame from a meridian tricycle with a x5304 rear motor and my battery pack for this is going to be( 2) 48 volt 15amp pings hooked in parallel. This should make DOGMAN HAPPY. :D :D :D

This will make DOGMANS day I just ordered (2) 48 volt 15amp ping battries to use in parallel for long rides and leave one off for shorter rides, this is for me special bicycle project that i am working on, looks like i have spent all of this year's retirement income on battries in the last week. but i'am happy. :D :D :D

Heh Heh. I could care less, but for a 5304 on pings, 30 ah sounds about right. I think it will make you happy though

HI DOGMAN: It has been because of your good sucess with ping battries and the good reviews that you make here that has helped a lot of us make progress on our projects. THANKS COOPER :) :)

I ordered my packs on Mon (3 x 12V/20AH cells, 6A charger) and they should be arriving later today. I'll take some pics of a TS battery next to one of my 12V/15AH Ping batteries.

Caution: Don't get the TS and Ping to close together unless you want to see the Ping cry. LOL

The packs and charger arrived today. My first impression was...they're huge! :D In the pics, you'll see my Ping 12v/15ah, and a 12v/10ah SLA that came with my amped bikes kit. I think these would work great for a trolling motor, but they are rather large for a bicycle. However, I will probably probably use 2 for a 24v motor, and only run 3 when I want to do some distance on a 36v motor.

2 of these 12v/20ah laid flat would probably be similar physically to the size of the typical 48v/10ah packs out there.
