I really like your enclosure totorial and I hope to find a similar case. one question though...

What is the internal height of your case? I wonder if it will fit my fatter 5s lipo packs.

the battery enclosure/case is from ADS - it's the 10S 8AH model, it's not a ultra tight fit as was my 7S 10AH enclosure. I will measure it exactly as it's opened/unfixed due to lipo mod waiting.
 
As far as the DMC-GH4 goes.....I have a GH2 which doesn't have a lot of modern features...but its relatively inexpensive compared to most cannon's and nikkon's...but there are some great hacks for the GH2 that can give you the same quality as a 5 thousand dollar cinema quality camera!!!

Hey kimbo, I don't know because I didn't ride it yet (except for a 3 minutes session around my apartment). I should be able to tell you that sunday !

I was wondering if a bigger board (like 39/42) would not be better for such a high power setup, give you more confidence ! My thoughts are this board maybe just my next go. it has a short kicktail which will allow me to do some wheelings.

otherwise, I have my tesseract that could allow me both nose/tail manuals... that could be fun... the tesseract is heavier (500g) than my Fibretech Flypan or my Wefunk (1.7kg) but electric nose manuals should be so awesome, just wondering how it goes to lift the 9kg of the full setup with manuals...

ok guys, got an issue... major one!

When I connect the 10S 8AH lipo to the ICHARGER 3010, I have 95% of the time a major spark on the second wire which I am about to connect. I just don't want to try it anymore as I don't wanna burn my environment... and I don't have a garden to play (welcome to Paris). When I was running the 7S setup, never ever (ever) seen such thing.

This is what I do:
1) power on the charger
2) plug BLACK (-) battery wire first to charger BLACK wire
3) plug RED (+) battery wire second to charger RED wire

As soon as I do the 3) I get a big spark (such spark you don't want to continue) when the wire from the battery is touching the wire from the 10S Lipo.

I don't know why, I tried it one hour ago, followed the same procedure and didn't got any spark. I just try it twice... spark and now I stopped, seems too dangerous.

When it was causing no spark (only one time), I then did (after 1/2/3):
- connect both 5S balance wire to balance board, one after the other
- connect the balance board as a 10S to the charger
- charge
- worked fine.

so guys, I need some support because there should be more guidance on this for people that are going 10S...!

it seems easy this way, just don't get why this is not explained when such stuff is sold, you see... some kind of safety or best practices advices added to the electronics/battery shipment or order. I really don't feel confident with lipos at this time and I have been into RC for a while !

by the way, even when the charger was ON, on my old setup I didn't have any spark with my 7S 10AH...! so this is why I don't really get it.
 
Odd.. but you should get some sort of spark. Anyhow, 10S (37v) is a big difference than 7S (25.9v). :mrgreen:

Spark is normal it just eats up the connectors and burns the tips. If you do it too often it will burn the tip of the connector and usually you have to replace it.

Better to not let it spark anyways though. I don't like the spark either.

So plug everything in then turn on charger and/or power supply on last.
 
thanks. I also think that advice should be given to avoid connection of two 5S balance connectors (one for each 5S) to the balance board (that makes it a 10S) without having the two (positive and negative) of the battery already connected to the charger.

in other terms, never connect the two 5S balance connector to the balancing board FIRST.

Yeah, if you are charging parallel. If the voltages of the two batteries are different and far off. You want to connect the discharge wires first to balance it out as it can handle more current versus balance connectors.

I usually connect discharge for about 5 seconds or so and then connect the balance connectors - just to be safe.
 
yes, what would be the worst or usual case scenario if someone plugs the balance connectors first and keep them plugged ? (because you say, "to be safe"..) ?

I also think that a 10S battery should be sold with the two balance connectors already assembled into one 10S balancing connector.. that would be (far) way better...

Not too sure exactly. You don't want that current to go through those tiny pins though the balance connectors. If you have 6 packs in parallel versus 2 it will be less damage as there are more pins/packs it can balance through.

You just have to think that those tiny pins only allow a small amount of current through them.

I guess worse case something burns and/or start a fire similar to a short connection basically you overload a pin with current.

Most people don't have 10S chargers and they don't sell any 10S parallel boards. You would have to custom make it. (2) 5S is the easiest and most simple as well as (2) 6S in series. I prefer the (2) 5S IMO.
 
thanks. hopefully I have waited to get the balance board, cause it would have been worst if I was trying to assemble it in one 10S by connecting two wires from each 5S balance connector without having the discharge wire connected to the charger ...!

There is one concern that is still very real though and that is if the pack's balance wires are connected first, this high current could damage the balance wires and/or the balance adapter. As such the main leads should always be connected first.

so good order is finally (charger is initially not powered) :
- step 4 / connect red discharge to charger
- step 5 / connect black discharge to charger
- step 1 / power on charger - should be no spark
- step 2 / connect in parallel the two 5S to one 10S on the balancing board - should be no spark
- step 3 / connect balancing board to charger

kinda crazy to get it done - will try this tomorrow morning
 
ok guys, almost ready to go to plug this 10S. hopefully everything will be ok.

I have to say that I am a bit worried about pluging this when I have seen spark everywhere.

Ok - just did it ... charger if connected to the power supply but the power supply is OFF.. when I connect the discharge negative wire there is a spark - see the video.... how come this happen ? do I need to unplug one of the charger + or - from the power supply ? then connect the lipo and then the power supply ?

the power supply is connected to the wall,
the power supply is turned OFF (using the switch, this is why the charger is not ON)
the charger is connected to the power supply
 
ok, just did a new video - on the first one, the charger was OFF, but it was put ON few minutes before, so I thought there could be some electrical stuff which was remaining "in memory".

I just did it again, charger is OFF (power supply if OFF, but connected to the wall)

I thought I would be able to ride today... seem this is compromised. I'm pissed - I have been preparing this board for a while... waiting for like 1 month for the electronical stuff which was partly sent... then another 1 week and still something missing in the package according to the order, then another week.. and we are today... and this is getting me mad.

do I need to test this by unplugging the charger from the power source (even if the power source is off ?) - maybe I need to connect the BLACK discharge wire first ?

if the battery is damaged for whatever reason, I don't want to burn my whole apartment...

what about connecting the lipo back to my powerswitch, maybe something in the lipo needs fixing ... and by connecting it to my powerswitch... and try one or two wheel roll and then come back to the charger ? I also got a wattmeter in the board setup that could help me in having a diagnostic ?
