Half hour wait as they ran my numbers. Then we talked mountain bikes. Lol. Tires, suspension, etc. I asked what tagged me. Undercover guy said, "kinda everything, all black, ff helmet, camera, weaving around..." was recording, but got prob mostly audio....knoxie said:Shame you aint posting any videos
Not really! Only towards the end the guy asked what kind of hub that was. No mention at all about the battery! This proves my point that if it's encased in Cordura, no one looks twice. Absolutely ubiquitous material. Deflects attention. And these are Bike Cops! LOL. I was standing over it, concealing the controller somewhat... Can you imagine if I had ammo boxes on there!knoxie said:well at least they noticed it was electric
They LOOK evil. No question. But right now, I wear it and ski goggles for warmth as much as anything else. Gonna get a new bike/skateboard helmet when it warms up. Mainly for visibility.Alan B said:We always knew those helmets were evil...
I made something similar for someone a while ago as they wanted to keep the bike as low key as possible and remove the battery and controller when not in use. I had a 5 pin anderson plug for the power and phase wires and a serial/DB9 plug for the hall wires and throttle and brake. With a 12S2P lipo pack it all fitted neatly on a QR seatpost rack and was removed in seconds.knoxie said:I was thinking about popping a small set of batts in to my rucksack along with the controller and having 1 cable and 1 connector that hooked up the battery the controller and the throttle, we have loads of off cuts of cable at work that would be perfect, I can use a harting connector 1 multipole connector for all connections, that would be neat, just unplug off the bike and the only thing you leave on the bike is the motor and the throttle.
back packs are good if you have other stuff to carry but when you're travelling light you can't beat my method for inconspicuous lipo transport http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17335&p=253462 :lol:i aint scared of any potential lipo issues, been carrying them around on my back for yearsmakes it all super stealthy as well, stealth is good 8) what you got in your back pack sir?? do you mind if I take a look??
certainly officer

Then for balance, go w/ a front and rear 9C's.knoxie said:I was thinking about popping a small set of batts in to my rucksack along with the controller and having 1 cable and 1 connector that hooked up the battery the controller and the throttle, we have loads of off cuts of cable at work that would be perfect, I can use a harting connector 1 multipole connector for all connections
yeah, that woulda been funny, except how it would have ended, me prone out somewhere, or worse.knoxie said:...they said they had calls about you? I wonder why! ha ha, I am sure you were sticking to the speed limits? anyway would have been funny to see them try and stop you on their bikes.

the place was crawling! cops, secret service everywhere. the line he said about getting all these calls about me is interesting, considering i'd only gone a couple blocks! all of them on in touch by radio, commenting on 'the cyclist' :
Hey chroot, I was just riding around Capitol Hill and was stopped because I looked suspcious. The guy first asked why I was wearing that helmet, and guessed for tricks? I said yeah, not really wanting to elaborate. I offered him my badge and gave him my ID & SSN when he asked, just because I knew it would speed it up. Then a plainclothes intel guy showed up. Not captured, I asked what attracted their attention. He said "pretty much everything: your helmet, the camera, dressed in all black, weaving around..." They also said there were 'important' people around that day, so they were being extra careful. At that time, all the senators, congressmen walk around getting lunch, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the dudes in the suits was someone... Bottom line, I did nothing wrong, got no ticket or no warning, just a delay when they checked me out...chroot said:Did the police gave you ticket and if so what violation?
