What exactly do you have for speakers, amplifiers, and interconnects right now?

Can't you run an audio out into an old tube amp? Might be mono, but any small guitar amp should do it. For stero, get two.

And there might be somthing in the trift stores, in a 70's stereo.

For good sound you need good speakers, good amplification , and a good source.
I might suggest that a computer is not a good starting point for a "good" sound system !
Then is just a matter of how much you want to spend on the necessary components !

Quick solution.... get an iPod and some good earphones. !
( you can even use that when you are riding your bike )

We have a local thrift shop that gets all of the old school goodies. I have two old Kenwood 100 watt solid state receivers, two Marantz monitors with 10" woofers and a set of Cerwin Vega red foam 12" towers. For source, we have a teac reel to reel, an Onkyo CD player, an awesome old Kenwood tape deck, and an old direct drive Dual turntable. In all, we have about $100 in it and it rocks like stuff used to.

With all of that though, we were in there once and he had a very nice Klipsch Compact set with two little satellites and a subwoofer. It had a broken off input connector and we got the set for $10. I got it home, repaired the connector and it literally has some of the best, cleanest sound I've ever heard and I've been in some nice studios and theaters. It's THX rated and deserves it. The speakers are very well built and heavy but the input connector to the sub is a weak link. It really needs a right angle connector and retaining clip at the sub. Anyway, here's a link to the set NEW for $70.

These sound like $5000 speakers and I'm not joking.

They mention the $250 amp that ebikes.ca is promoting, 2 X 50W stereo with 20V-84V input so it can be plugged into directly to your E-bike battery. Heres a few links, plus a positive review (boat [marine] speakers recommended for uotdoor use):
