How Many Miles to your place of Employment

Just like the subject says, how far is it to your place of employment if you had the option of riding your bike or e-bike there?

That's cool. I work from home, so I'm in the less than 1 mile category. But I do have to make a lot of trips out from my home. The post office is 2 miles down the road, then the bank is another 2 miles the other way, the grocery store being 2 miles in yet another direction. Most of my friends live with 5 miles, so it's easy to visit them no matter what time of day or traffic conditions. I also ride in the local bike club, so usually I drive to the bike club on the bike, LOL, do the ride, then drive the bike home. They always get a laugh out of that one of driving your bike in to do a bike ride. So daily I'm between 20 and 30 miles of riding depending on how buys things are. Any customers that are within 10 miles I usually give them a visit on my bike as well.

Of course in really bad weather I've drive the old rice burner, but it just isn't as fun and sometimes I forget that being in the car doesn't mean I can go down the shoulder, so talk about some embarassing moments in the car when I realize what I'm doing, :lol: :lol:

Any work I do is at home so I decided that I would give the one place I would like to be able to ride to when I get my bike electrified. I play steel tip darts once a week in a league near my friends house (11-12 miles) and currently have to borrow a car to make the trip.

But soon that may all change

I just hope my batteries can charge back up for the ride home in 4 hours. :lol:

12.75 Mi I run a gohub 48 volt with 9ah batteries and it is just enough to get me there,then I charge and am good for the ride home.

its about 18 miles to work for me each way, but unfortunatly, there is no safe path for a bike during trafic between my town and the next. there are no sidewalks, no sholder on the road, and a 45MPH speed limit. the traffic is usualy heavy enough that you have to sit in line for 2 lights to get through the intersections along the way, too.

Unfortunatly, thats my first 5 miles, after that, there are sidewalks, bike trails, and even the DART rail system, which will let you take a bike, and drops off right next to my work.

I was faced with the same issues when I was designing my bike. A 20.x mile one way ride, with several segments either not bike friendly, or I'd have to go miles out of the way to take side roads. 1250 miles later, my commute still puts a big grin on my face as I blow by rush hour traffic.

Hey Drunkskunk, I assume you're in the DFW area (by your reference to DART). I'm in the DFW area too (the other side - Fort Worth), and know what you mean. There are some real barriers, that can prevent anyone who's not incredibly brave from getting where they want to go. Lots of the no-shoulder, 50mph roads. I just happened to luck out, and can weave through the suburban sprawl on quiet roads for most of my 18 miles to work (I work at DFW Airport):

But there are many places even closer to the airport from which it'd be almost impossible, usually just due to some unavoidable short section of scary road.

Jay,
I live in Richardson. Before I built my bike I made sure I had a safe route. I live 6 miles from work. Occasionally would ride my pedal bike on nice days. Found I was'nt riding enough. With all this rain disapointed I can't ride the electric all the time.

Sounds like Drunk Skunk lives near here from what I can gather. I need fenders, think maybe I could get some beer cans from DS, duct tape em, make the rain more bearable.
