I have just built this dh frame for use with an alfine hub.

However I'm looking at the possibility of putting a hub motor in place of the alfine. Want light weight and torque more than anything and would be happy with a max speed of 25km/h, 10-20km range. Anyone know if there are any motors similar to the nano that will accept a freewheel/sprocket and are under 125mm diameter?

Very interesting! I would think one of the cute motors might fit, or other geared motor, I would put that alfine into the rear wheel and let it be the transmission for the hub motor, or you could do the same with a Nuvinci, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to put a similar single speed freewheel adapter to the alfine like these for the Nuvinci:

Yeah It is 4130. Would like to keep alfine or try a Nuvinci, but am keen to keep the bike under 25kgs.

There are a couple of motors that would suit - Ananda 108 for example. However, there are much more powerful alternatives such as RC motors..

edit: here's a link to Ananda 85 which is the same 120mm outside dims as 108
