Am looking to buy a sinewave ebike controller for my 72V bike (replacing a broken controller). I wanted to buy a 12F powervelocity controller but www.powervelocity.com isn't working?? The site was working before Christmas.... Does anyone know if they have gone out of business?

Also does anyone sell a comparable 72V ebike controller. It is for use with a cycle analyst V3, a crystallite HS 3540 motor and a 72V LIPO battery.

By comparable, what specific functions and specs do you need the controller to have? (PV has had several versions of different controllers with different functionality)

Yeah it seems Vadim isn't doing anything with PV at the moment.

I'm just looking for a replacement 12F ebike controller.

I bought a Powervelocity 12Fet sinewave 4110 controller from Vadim a few years back. He was great to deal with so it would be a shame if he's out of business.

There is a pretty wide range of them that that description fits, and I suspect you may have more specific requirements than you think you do. ;)

So far we know it needs to be used with 72v, and needs a CA connector, and needs to be sinewave.


What battery current limit do you need it to have? (too small and it won't run your bike the way you need it to, too large and it could cause battery problems)

Does it matter whether it has a display or not? (or is otherwise programmable / has any user settings?) (no settings means you can't change any of it's behavior)

Do you need PAS? Or just throttle?

Do you need torque (current) motor control, or will regular speed (voltage) control work? (most controllers just use speed control; FOC and similar controllers use torque control)

There are more options than those, too.... ;)

I havn't built a bike in a few years so was just making presumptions in my head! haha

I think this thread might (hopefully) answer similar questions for others...

Taking your list as a guide, my needs for the controller are:
1) must work with 72V LIPO Battery
2) needs Cycle Analyst connector
3) needs to be sinewave
4) 40 Amp current limit
5) no display needed as I use the Cycle Analyst for that
6) preferably programmable (like the idea of Bluetooth if possible but am happy to be able to customise settings via a cable)
7) PAS is not needed - I use a throttle
8) Just need speed control

Hope that helps any potential sellars!

I've been using the 48v30A version on one of the trike's motors for a while now (3 years? Can't remember for sure); other than regen not being strong enough for the really heavy trike/cargo/me, it's been good.
 
The Phaserunner should also work, and it is programmable (actually requires you to program it for your specific motor) via the PR software suite for PCs, and has an android version in development here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.ebikes.phaserunner.softwaresuite

Phaserunner with stainless steel shell and 60cm long integrated phase lead with over-molded locking 10-pin L10 connector.

This new V3 model uses the 8 pin waterproof CA plug to mate with the CA3-WP device instead of the original 6-pin JST plug, if you have an original CA3-DP or CA3-DPS you will need to also get the WP8->JST adapter.

As I find others, I'll link them here.

Another one I havent' used, but lots of threads about various versions: I'm sure there is a KT (KunTeng) controller version that does what you want, but they do use a display (LCD) of their own to do the setup, and to use anything other than power-on default levels when running "headless" (no display actually mounted on the bike).

There is also opensource firmware (casainho, stancecoke, et. al) here on ES for them that provides more advanced / versatile options.

Yeah the Phaserunner would be my preferred option - I have been looking at them online for quite a while but never had a reason to buy one until now.... and like you said amberwolf - they're out of stock. I just received my 72V satiator charger from GRIN so a phaserrunner would work nicely with the bike...

The website has been slowly dying. Pages and links are mostly broken. I tried contacting him a couple times over the last couple of years, and had some limited success in getting a response when posting on his forum page. I think the last time I looked at the forum, he had recently (within a week) responded to someone else's question. I'm not sure any part of the website is accessible anymore.
 
Just imagine all the after purchase support you will get after you paid for your power velocity controller.
Do not pay via friends and family on paypal.
 
Yes but its still wise to warn people out there in internet land. It is pretty amazing to hear what people fall for, can just see the op coming back with some long winded story that kind of makes sense to explain the op's no response. Either the profit margins arent good enough, or more likely the parts arent as easy to get or anything else you name it.

I think he started out modifying controllers, upgrading parts like the FETs and stuff, and updating the firmware. I have the 7kW controller and it's well built; doesn't even get lukewarm. And it's not huge, more like a 18 FET KT that ate too much, and not chunky like a Sabvoton or Kelly, which I'd have a hard time finding a mounting spot for.

It seems like when the development of a completely new controller design started, something changed. Support on any of the older models sort of disappeared, and over time responses or updates regarding the new controller also became less frequent.

Stuff changes, things come up, and whether it's a main business or a side business, there's only so much time. Sometimes I get really ticked off at big companies, but when it's a small business, well it is what it is. But, a lot of the really good stuff comes from small businesses in the ebike world (not a factory in China stamping out thousands). And that generally translates to long wait times or higher prices. I don't think I'll ever fry this controller and live to tell about it, so it's a keeper.

That said, I do wish he'd post the full version history of the app for both platforms, or maybe the source code, since at some point new phones won't work with what's out there; plus new versions don't work with older controllers.
 
CA3 will work with anything out there that has a throttle and brake wires. I have one and I used it with external shunts with the cheapest ass Chinese junk. So no issues here.
I will recommend you three controllers:
Phaserunner from Grin
Nucular 6F from Nucular
Flipsky 75100 from Flipsky
All three are about equal in size and about equal in power output. I have all three and can speak from experience.
Phaserunner
It is the best if you have to tie it to a bicycle frame. It’s now mounted on a bafang bbshd and gives me consistent output of 2KW, often up to 3KW on a 20s lion battery.
It is also the most elegant looking.

Nucular
The most powerful of the three and by far the easier to program. It drives my test bed electric moped. It will give you 2.5 kW consistently with just being warm to the touch. It comes with its own screen that is much better than CA3. This screen you use to program it. You don’t need the screen to operate it if you do desire. Also best documentation and I always get response from support in a day.

75100
Close second in power output and the cheapest by far. I have put it on another electric moped that I am still testing but so far, impressive. This one is the most complex to configure and if you are not familiar with vesc project, and have no fun compiling your own tools, you better think twice.

Doesnt' need the brake wires, as the CAv3 doesn't have a brake output, only a throttle output. ;)
