I've been so impressed with I tunes, I wonder why you'd want to. I found it one of the best pieces of software I've every used. Certainly a lot better than the windows stuff.

In any case, I don't belive you can put anything in the ipod without using I tunes, and have it play. I love my ipod more than the ebike I think. Once the collection wouldn't fit in a 300 cd changer anymore, it got harder and harder to listen to any of it. Now I go riding off road with 800 cd's in my pocket. 8)

ipods can be used like external media, by disabling the sync feature in itunes.

itunes docs are pathetic; but IIRC, you select "manage files manually" in the ipod properties (in itunes). Then you can drag and drop like conventional win file xfer.

(I helped a friend with this only once, so my memory is vague.)

got an ipod touch 2nd gen, wondering if i could sync it to the music on my computer without using itunes
Yes you definitely can!
I just got me a new iPhone 3GS for almost a month now and I'm learning a lot already and yet I know it's just the tip of the iceburg of all the capabilities of these things. I tranfered over 800 mp3 song files from my old iPod Nano to my desktop computer then onto my iPhone without using iTines. I used a program called Podshare to do it. You can do a search and download it for free. There's another program that does the same thing called Senuti (which is just iTunes spelled backwards). Good luck.

The OP is just another signature spammer. They do this all over the place. Google part of their post and you'll probably find it is a copy/paste of somebody's real post somewhere else on the web, and is probably being used to spam dozens or hundreds of forums.
