when I was young, I used to have fun wheelie-ing (on a non-electric bike) whenever seemed appropriate.

Being older, much bigger, and knowing now how much things can hurt if things go wrong, I was thinking of a way to safely wheelie/ practice wheelies without the pain of learning. Rather than a throttle control, I was thinking of a simple rear wheel (like dragsters use) - and searching on the net, I found this. http://www.wheelieteach.com/

Has anyone tried such a thing?

hehe, drag racing is one thing, control of a bike is another. Fit your rear brake lever on the left, this makes it much easier to control the wheelie. It is with practice that you get to feel comfortable lifting the front, and eventually the tail.

With an ebike, you could fit a sensor to limit the wheelie, the like they are now standard equipment on some motorcycles.

Will have to get used to idea of using a handbrake rather than a footbrake like a motorbike! Good idea on the sensor though, hopefully one comes along sometime

I wasent so much the pain (i have a pretty high pain threshold) for me but the 8 weeks of not using my leg is starting to annoy me LOL. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68791.

A wheelie bar/wheel on the back would need to be very solidly mounted and i imagine you would need a real smooth surface to practicise on or it could actually create more problems than it fixes.
