LMX P2 : Freeride trials motorcycle frame development

We are not making a different version of the P2.1 frames but still improving them. They took up a bit of weight going from chromo to steel tho  So now the complete frames sit at about 10kg. No specific plans to work on weigth reduction exepted bring back a chromo version. The P2.1 is the hard offroad thing, it will take the abuse and laugth at you. I had comments from test riders about how forgiving it was and I can attest it myself, with super bad flat landings, overshots when I land nose down on the next jump, stairs, ext.

The new Lmx-biktrix81 frames are something different, completely novel drivetrain with 9 pedal speeds and freewheeling mid-direct motor drive. Our prototype is 28kg and the frame was about 6kg IIrc. As we have integarted the motor directely to the frame we saved some good weigth!

We want to make this one super tougth and reliable too, but as it's more complicated, it's also by design a bit less tolerent to hardcore offroad stuff. That's why we are still in the testing phase for the new LMX-bikrix 81.

The new frames are being assembeld right now :

We ordered a batch of 10 LMX 2.2 frames. The mofifications compared to the previous batch is improved seat fit, controller mount. We are developping some simple plastics mudguards too. Those new frames are made of steel insetad of Chro-moly wich is too hard to source at a decent price in small quantities...

And LMX 81 testing too :

Hi Adam,
I ill be wanting to buy an LMX frame after I sell my current build this summer. Do you reckon you will have any frames for sale around September? Wanting to change to a more lightweight setup :D

The LMX 81 project is awesome. I love mid drive setups. Please, take into consideration that a somehow easy way to change the motor would be nice, so it becomse possible to upgrade or repair it if needed.

Any comment about the availability of this frame?

Dirtech, We will probably have some frames available in Septemeber but nothing is cast in stone yet, we need to be sure our suppliers delivers as far as quality and delays goes! That's why we placed orders and we're not taking preorders yet, because we need to be sure we deliver high quality products and in time.

Sr.Agaporni, the main advantage of our solution with integrated motor is that we have very good heat path, and this motor have been proven both by us and others so we are very confident in the fact that we won't need to upgrade this. We can't wait to try this bike with more power, like 5kw peak or so !

New frames (10) in stock soon, some hi kv big blocks too, now off to get some battery boxes produced.

I need to order some samsung 25r for a 20S5P or 6p when some of the frames will be sold ;)

Are you planning to sell the motor mount as an individual part?

Missing some spokes to test the new setup

Selling the motor mount would not make a lot of sense as those are custom designed for the LMX frames and take rigidity in the way they are mounted to the frame...

this project is basically what got me interested, and continuously keep me pumped on ebikes and things to come.

maybe someday i'll even finish my frame....

Hi everyone!

As most of us here, I am also very interested in Adam's development with the P2.1 :)
I have a few questions before I am collecting parts and planning the build around his frame.
Therefor I went roughly thru all the pages of P1 and P2 build threads during the last days to collect some info.

Now I came up with some small questions  :

1. Motor Heat / lost efficiancy:
There where a few comments where I red about temperature and lost efficiancy issues with the BHT 48V 1000W motor and the kelly controllers. Did that get sortet out?
Adam recommends the Kelly KBS72121X,55A,24-72V, Mini Brushless DC Controller in his build list, is there anything to take care of before buying these two?

2. Thumb- or Twist-Throttle?
Is that just personal preference or where are the pros and cons for one or the other on hard ridden free-ride bikes like the LMX?
Coming from an 4wheel/ATV Backround I would definitly like thumb trottle more, however after speaking to a few really good pro MotoX drivers they all were like: "If thumb trottle would give any benefit, why would not anyone riders use it?" ;)

3. Rear Tire size:
I have to admit, what physically really caught my eye in the beginning was that beefy and purely aggressive look of the P1 with its motocross tire:

What were the PROs and CONs after switching your rear tire Adam? If i remember right you mentioned a "70/100-17" motocross front tire in the ES P1 build thread and now the 24"x3" (!?) downhill tire for the P2. Was it just for weight reduction or does it serve any real-world advantage while ripping some dirt?

Thanks alot for your time everyone, hopefully I will have mine ready to rock ASAP.

Have a great weekend everyone! 8)

I have the same Kelly in my E-Freerider in combination with the revolt 100Pro and 20s. There is a serious issue which Kelly's support can not solve. When you turn the throttle up, the bike accelerates to a certain speed. No issues.
At this point there are 2 cases:
1.: You close the throttle COMPLETELY: Bike slows down as if motor is turned off completely. No issues.
2.: You close the throttle, but not completely, The bike brakes ! Depending on the mode-setting it does it more or less hard. With torque mode it does it less, but it is still braking force. This behavior makes the whole bike not usable for any sort of trial sections. It is also bad if you want to reduce speed before a turn, as it brakes unforeseen. Has anybody a solution for this ?
This may answer at least one of your concerns :)

Nope...regen is completely turned off. I have contacted Kelly and they have no solution for it.

Here you go with their feedback: "We only can reduce the affection a little bit by disable the Smooth. We can not remove it all."

The point is you can neither sit an unexperienced rider on it nor use the bike in let's call them "difficult to ride"-(like trial) sections. Having this said as a former enduro wcs rider...:). It's a really ugly behavior. Any suggestions for a controller that behaves different are highly appreciated.
