Looking for best cheap 24s controller.

I've read through http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29469 (along with some other threads on good cheap controllers, but haven't found anything that'll help me decide) but it seems those aren't available for the 38ish dollars that they once were sold for. (looks like they're about $50 now, and don't have the same good FETs that the early ones did)

Do you guys think any of these are good? If so, which one should I go for?

or any others?

I was also thinking of maybe buying one of Lyen's controllers... except the ones listed above look like a better value in terms of power.
I have around $200 to spend for now and was thinking of using half of that to upgrade to 24s2p (+2 battery packs, from current 18s2p that I have)...
That leaves me with just a little over a hundred to spend on a new controller, and from what I've been reading, I don't think I'd be disappointed with the power from some of these cheap 24s capable ones. ...so, any suggestions? Or do you guys really recommend me buy a more expensive one (passing up the apparently good value ones listed above) and holding off on the 24s config. (till later on when I'd buy those two battery packs)?

...also, regen. braking wouldn't be so bad to have ;) (idk if those cheap ones have it)

I've been using an OT100 (the first one) for about 18 months now without a problem, @24s 100.8V for the last 6 months. It comes wired for cruise control. Though not wired for regen, it does support it. You just have to wire it up inside. If you run anything over 18s, you have to mod the LVC to a higher voltage as it comes set at ~60V, if you want regen braking. Both of mine came with 4410 fets.

What's your max amp draw? ... I think I have a very similar motor to you (mine is rated 800w so I should get similar results to how your bike performs)... How well does the controller handle hills?

....oh, and is it still worth buying it for today's higher price?

Shouldn't I also assume mine isn't going to support regen or have the better FETs since I'll most likely get one made after august of last year?

My Lyen 12 fet 4110 controller has been flawless. I even rode it at 102.5V (25s lipo) for a whole summer.

i have had three controllers from Lyen... not a problem with any of them...he will setup your controller any way you want it or supply a computer connection and you can program it yourself ... they are not cheap, but they reliable:mrgreen:

I also have 2 Lyen 12 fet controllers running at 24s2p and could not be happier. I purchased the programming cable and coupled with his support make the controllers a great purchase for the person who likes to tinker. I use regen and 3 speed switch with a limit of 50 amps and hit 50 MPH easily with a EV global ebike. I have 3000 miles on 1 bike and 300 miles on my second build.

He has two sites? :?:

What's the programming cable like? A standard usb cable that anyone can hack together and wire to the controller?

What does the "3 speed switch" do?/Why would someone want one?

You have this one listed in this thread? http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17683
Maybe I might get that one. :)

The cable I purchased from Lyen direct. $ 15.00 I think. It allows all parameters of the controller to be programmmed.

The switch acts a performance limiter/tuner.
Low Speed 20 mph
Mid Speed 38 Mph
High Speed 52 mph

Lyen also is great for support. I had many questions in the beginning and he answered all questions with detailed answers within a day via email. As a novice his support was priceless to me and now I buy from him to support him because he helped me and not because I need help any longer setting up the controller.

Can someone post or link me to a picture of this cable?

When you order from Lyen just tell him you want to buy the cable. I am not sure a picture of it is on his website.

177 Plus shipping for an 18 fet rated to 120.. I am very happy with cell_man's new line of controllers..
I have a 24 fet 4110 and it's rocking my 5404.

What is the difference between an 18FET, like the one you listed, and a 12FET ( http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17683 ) in terms of power? Is the difference just the number of amps it'll safely output?

It's important to keep in mind that most the people in this thread running 12fet controllers are 24s are going
beyond the recommended power and some people have fried the same controllers doing this.. Ill admit I have
ran my lyen 12fet at 24s with no issues , but it's worth stating.

The one I listed is 4115 fets (I think) and it's rated for higher power and should take higher amps. It's listed on
each respective web site what they are rated so just look at the fine print.

Both are good choices IMO , but if you run something over it's rated limit just be prepared for something to give.

I think sometimes it also has a lot to do with the motor you run.. still im no expert and learning as I go.

Yea, people do run the 12FET one at 24s... and I haven't read of anyone blowing a 12FET controller at 24s up until they pulled 80A+ or so (guessing). ..and if I was to get the 12FET, running it on 24s at 50ish amps (max) would be more than enough for me (I think :D ).

...If the only real world performance difference I'd see is # of amps each one is capable of then I don't think it's worth me spending more on the 18FET one. ... I'd then be able to spend the money I save for two more battery packs.
