Luke's commuter bicycle. What Non-hub is all about.

So Luke's ebike is equivalent to a drug. Makes sense. :)

To me, the word "Drug" is any addiction. Some are more fun and others are destructive  and some are both....in a good way! 8)

That link to the sports bike forum was a good laugh

Rough Quote: He is only faster because he has a better power to weigh :? :?:

Rough Quote : He is only faster because electric motors produce huge torque off idle :? :?:

Rough Quote : He is only faster because he is limiting the race speed to his bikes top speed :? :?:

Rough Quote : He is only faster because he is racing people in a area with limited amount of braking room?

Isn't all the above like saying a F1 car is only faster than a ride on lawn mower because is has better power to weight and more torque. :?

As for the limited amount of braking room comment. What are they trying to say ? Perhaps Luke's bike doesn't have to pull up and stop in the same amount of space :?: . To me that sports bike forum sounds like a bunch of 14 yo kids or adults that have had a lobotomy at birth .

Thanks for making the video's Luke it puts the speed of the bike into perspective seeing it run with some known factory ICE bikes.

Although the videos were fun. The truth will all come out when you run it at the 1/4 mile. No one can argue with a 1/4 mile time slip. We will have all the raw data on paper then. We will have a true comparable numbers we can match up with sports bike specs and get a idea where this e bike stands.

Good luck with the drag racing tomorrow.

PS, Get it on video (and make sure who ever is filming gets the time board in the video as you pass the line) It gives me the shits when I see 1/4 mile vid's and they don't show the time clock :?

It is still on, and ive been working on the bike a ton to prepare for tomorrow.

***** EDIT The schedule now has Sunday as a bracket-race day, and MONDAY as the test-and-tune... I will call in the morning and see if they will let it run exhibition at the bracket event, but it's doubtful... EDIT******

Its getting 5s cells added to the pack, which means i can onlt charge to 4v per cell, which is almost exactly the internal resistance minimum point, so the pack is going to be as mean of a power source as can even be connected to a sevcon.

The controller has some other setrings we are going to crank up as well. Should wring another 5-10 ponys from the setup.

Putting a fresh tire on her as well. Thinking about making a video of doing a fire burnout on the existing tire until it explodes.

your 'tweaking' your settings in order to add.... oh, only a casual 2x what my PEAK power is. WTF. I just felt my manhood shrink back up into my stomach just a little...

The comments on the bike forum are hilarious. even though some are true, the same could be said for any two competing bikes... 'oh his bike is lighter and has more torque, thats why he won...' - lol, no shit Sherlock, thats the point...

cant wait for the slips 'n' vids...

Damn damn damn damn!!!!

The Infinion schedule now says tomorrow is BRACKETS!!! BOOOOO!!!! And the test and tune is Monday now...

This SUCKS!

I'm going to call them tomorrow morning and see if they will let me make exhibition passes during the bracket event, but I'm doubtful.

I can see if I can get out of work to do it Monday, but it's all ready a pretty full work day for me, and I don't know if it will be possible.

Looks like Saturday's Test-and-tune at Sacramento raceway may be my next chance to run... :'(

:x :x :x :x :( :( :( :(

I can't imagine a better set up for bracket racing.
just peg it....every run.

re: from the vid. "aah! do ya wanna race my bicycle with your motorbike?" Ha Ha great stuff, such a teaser, that thing goes flies, want to see more

Love it !!!!!!!!

So , you need a higher voltage , or gearbox, to really wax those ICE guys? U should put a bunch of LED lights on her and does she have a name yet?

Im going to go look at sevcons catalog.

ride saFE BRO!

Mike

Thank you for the kind words guys.

She is getting a little piggy-back nano-tech booster pack added into her tomorrow. Because, you know, the 80 to 100mph time really could use some improvement, superbikes can pull ahead of me there you know.

I've been taking her to lunch almost everyday. It's such an intense beast to ride. And so quiet. It's seriously more quiet than most hubmotors.

Absolutely every ounce of thrust your heart desires is available at the twist of the wrist, you just twist back as far as your balls and strength at clinging on allows.

I would really like to see a light weight rider with a death-wish try the bike. It's hard for me to imagine what it would feel like accelerating faster than it currently does, but this is something a lighter weight rider has the ability to find out. Makes me want to diet. :)

If I consider a stock new CBR600RR to be slow and boring, what is this bike?

I also consider a CBR600RR to be dull. I pin the throttle and want to take a nap between gears.

This will not make you sleepy. This is the acceleration of an angry liter-bike, but while trying to cling to a bicycle seat and bicycle handle bars, modulating throttle to avoid flipping over or fishtailing.

It's pretty intense. If you've got full leathers, you're welcome to come take it for a spin and rate it for yourself. It might not leave you with as much skin as you started your ride with, but it won't leave you disappointed.

Sounds fun. The only issue is the 2,800 miles I would need to cover to make that happen.

Find a $1,000 Insight and aero mod it?

Why hasn't someone tried to replicate this yet?
Luke I'm sure you have had inbox overload - is anyone having a crack?

strapping a normal controller (easier to program than a sevcon) to the rig would make it happen right? Even a electric motorbike controller like those on Jozztek would do. (assuming Luke's controller you need a degree in abstract binary to program)

http://www.jozztek.com/shop/controllers/40-soliton-jr.html

Go on......goo onnnnn.....

*This is just me wanting to see more videos, completely selfish, I know:)*

Unfortionatly that controller is for a brushed motor. Luke hasn't gotten round to strapping an 11" Netgain motor and Soliton 1 controller to his bike...yet;)

You know me better than that Jozz. It would be a warp13 and an ampzilla. ;)

Wonderful project and very fun to read about! Early in the thread you provide a spec of parts and talk about the complicated controller setup.
How complicated is it really? Possible to manage by reading manuals and having basic electric and engineering knowledge or does it require some hardcore electronics knowledge?
What applications are these sevcons normally used in? I am thinking its a big problem for the brand if the controller is half impossible to setup.
Performance wise it seems to be a good controller for an amateur built electric motorbike.
