Need seat to fit this funny post

My ebike has a seat that hinges up to allow the battery to be slid up and out of its cradle. I'd like to find a big comfort-cruiser type saddle to replace the stock one. You can see here how the seat clamps on the square sides of the hinged part of the post. It's about 27-28mm across. Any ideas where I might find a saddle to fit, or how to adapt something to it?

That seat is standard. it's the seat post that is different. Seats mount by their rails. Good seatposts come with that clamp attached, and it's not part of the seat, And good seats don't include the clamp. Cheap bikes don't have the clamp attached to the post, so some Walfart quality seats include a clamp with the seat, but as long as it has those rails, Any normal seat should fit your bike's seat clamp.

Um, what kind of saddle do you think you have there?

A bigger saddle than that is not going to be better than what you have, unless you have set up your bike into some kind of unpedalable begging-dog rider position. If you've tried different angle adjustments and you aren't happy with the seat you've got, then by all means, try another seat. But I would not start with something bigger than that. This here is the saddle I keep in stock that works for almost everybody who wants a big soft seat. Remember, even if you don't push pedals very much, you probably don't want a seat that directly interferes with your attempts to do so.

I've ridden a bike daily at body weights of over 400 pounds, so you can trust me when I say I like a big saddle. You have a big saddle. Swapping it out will be easy, but repairing the seatpost head after you brutalize it by attaching a barstool will not be so easy. The bigger and wider the seat, the more leverage you have to mess stuff up with.

Consider going to a service-oriented bike shop to see if they can spot something obviously amiss with your setup. At my shop, I often fine-tune people's saddles at no charge, because riding on a saddle that's not set up right is miserable.

Chalo, what's the retail price tag on that seat ?
That seat was brought up in another similar "seat/seat post" thread a day or two ago, so it's still ingrained in my memory. $26 at Chalo's shop. Do I get a prize?

thanks people. BTW that seat is nowhere near as big as it looks in the photo. Wide angle lens, up close, is causing an illusion. Without going out to the garage to measure, I'd say it is ~7" wide. I'd like one a little wider or at least better padded.
edit: Ok I measured it, it is 8"wide. I would like it to be about 10" wide and better padded. I'll go to the bike shop and see what they have.

Forget thise 9" wide seats. They're crap. I've only found 2 that work good enough that I can ride for more than 10 minutes at a time and not have my butt go numb. And I tried a bunch of the so called comfort seats before finding these.

I've got both of these. Both work well. Bought the serfas last. The Worksman is the better buy because of price. They both ride about the same.

If you're heavy forget the Serfas seat. Mine started braking the front mount a while back and had to fix it. Since then all 3 mount point are broken and the seat is not usable. I just cant recommend anything other than the Worksman 6911V which is still working fine some 3 years later.

Look for a similar seat with better springs built in. That seat has just a rubber "faux spring". Wider seats just chafe more, some better spring will help your ass more IMO.

This has been my favorite "cruiser saddle" for many years:

If you search around don't become confused by the other large cruiser saddle from Cloud 9. Make sure the description mentions "contour" for that genuine "tractor pan" (Harley solo saddle) fit.

Like any large 11" saddle it sucks for meaningful pedaling but for my size/shape/feel, oh so comfy for eCruising....

Every arse has a prefered saddle shape and size and hardness. It is impossible to say to someone that he will be comfortable riding with this one or that one saddle. Even sitting on it in a bike shop won't tell, you need to ride it for a while to know. That is why I have so many lightly used saddles collecting dust in the garage.

I fond that cone-coil spring saddles (like that thing wesnewell mentioned) are not reliable for me when I weigh over 300 pounds. The springs push out through the frames, the sheetmetal portions of the frames bend, and the tension rods that retain the springs get uprooted from the seat pans. The rubber-sprung versions of such saddles address all these issues to one degree or another.

The Worksman saddle has the added drawback that it uses plate rails, meaning you can't put it on a decent quality seatpost. Sheetmetal seat guts, which are unfortunately the only kind you can use on a saddle like that, are also unreliable for heavyweight riders or anyone else who doesn't keep an eye on them and tighten as necessary.

If you feel you need a saddle with springs, I recommend either the "rubber biscuit" kind or plain compression coils, as used on most sprung Brooks saddles as well as many cheaper ones. But get a round rail saddle so you can use a real seatpost.
