Yeah it's real unfortunate that MAC motors are basically just sold by one company now: Cutler MAC.
I don't think you'll pay more than $300 for one today.
60A/72V sounds like madness. I'd love to see and hear this motor pushing that kind of power!
Hey Neptronix, long time, hope you're doing alright ?
I regularly pushed 3.5 Kw, into my old Mac 8T motor with 16s LiPo 66.6v hot off the charger and modded 40amp controller roughly 50 ish amps , the cycle analyst told me around 3.5 Kw, it was amazing fun.
It never used to roast that I could tell and after a long time with such abuse , eventually the clutch died but the newer grey gears were perfect and so was the motor wingdings, no discolouring or anything.
The way I see it , the motor didn't burn simply because it got up hills so fast, even with my old 48v 20 Ah ping batter it would do 30 Mph up a 12% grade.
Paul from em3ev sent me a newer modified clutch but sadly it was a bit too wide for the motor cover but I eventually decommissioned it as I was insane doing 44 Mph on a push bike.
I then got a Haibike trekking bike with Gen I Bosch 50 Nm mid drive motor and what a great quality bike but I was never a big fan of torque sensing especially because I have dodgy knees, cadence sensing would be better for me because with torque sensing , if you are in pain you can't put a lot of pressure on the pedals so the motor can't provide the power, it's a bit of a stupid system really.
The other issue I found with the Gen I Bosch was the terrible pedal drag with the motor off, while peddling the bike with the Mac 8T felt just like a normal bike, bit heavier but felt nowhere as bad as the drag of the Bosch. I don't know if they have changed this.
The Bosch is still going after 13 years and the battery still works but there's only around 2,000 Kms on it, I didn't use it much after.
