Hi I am new to electric bikes (and to computers) and I have an Izip 24volt electric beach cruser type bike that i am starting to customise,
my questions are.........
It has a currie drive motor,24v,,,, what would happen if i ran it on 36volts?
where is the limiter and hod do i disconnect it?
I would be very gratefull for any help with this.
regards

Here's a link someone put on the" ebike for the hills" thread. Welcome to the forum..

if you run on 36 volts depends on what your controller can handle. the older currie bikes pre 2009, and some of the 2008 had a controller that could handle the 36volts. they caught onto this, and started putting in a smaller rated controller. if you have the smaller version, you will blow it. if you have the older version, you will scream down the road much faster. but you will have to watch out that you dont burn your motor up. most people drill the motor casing full of holes to help keep it cool, then place a oil filter cover over the motor so water and dirt do not get in.

limiter? none i know of. its limited by how many volts goes into that brushed motor.

im fairly new to these currie bikes, but you can find some veteran guys here:

they can tell you exactly what you need to do.

If you hunt some more, there are threads here on modding the Izips. I think they are pretty old, like winter of 07-08. A different controller would most likely be needed. Your bike is now being limited by the voltage, and voltage sag typical of sla batteries. If you got a lifepo4 battery, or paralelled a nicad battery with your lead batteries, either method would greatlly reduce voltage sag, and the performance at 24v would improve. Just a few mph, but the bike would also climb a hill noticeably better.
