Prodeco Phantom X2

Does anyone know the answers to the following Prodeco questions. I never receive a response when I email them.

1) Are there any dealers in San Diego?
2) What are the dimensions of their different ebikes when folded? I am particularly interested in the Phantom X2 and Stride.
3) Is there a lock on the battery? Or would it be extremely easy for someone to steal if I parked my bike for a few minutes?
4) Are they willing to upgrade the battery/motor on particular bikes? Say upgrade the Phantom's battery/motor/controller to the outlaw's.

Otherwise, if anyone has any recommendations of a good folding bike I could start building my own custom ebike from that would be awesome.

Hi Derek,

Which email address do you send to with questions? We hear once in awhile people state that they cannot get through and when we check the email servers, everything is being answered.

San Diego Stores: there are no big store front dealers yet but currently one is signing up for the 2013 models. Right now Electric Bike Center 619-564-7028 ordered recently Mariner 7 models. Jazzygear is also opening a store front and sold many bikes over the past year through the internet, their number is 714-744-0266.

Folding Size: the majority of the bikes are 35" wide, 16" deep and 37" high when folded.

Battery Lock: The battery has a lock which is also the ignition key to power the bike.

Upgrades: as far as upgrading, not at the factory can batteries be changed but many retailers do battery upgrades themselves. The Phantom max power is 500W and 20mph, no higher power or speed is allowed for this model. Last year since each bike was custom built to order, changes could have been done. The new production lines are doing high quantity per line of the same model and going right to packaging. Orders are pulled from these built bikes versus building to order unless a dealer is ordering high quantity of a specific model with a specific set of features. We have been known though to build custom bikes depending on the situation and customer's needs.

For Rob Provost , would love to see a cyclocross type e-bike with 30 mile range and 30mph and a more traditional geometry , your current bikes look very rear end heavy, do you think that we might see something like that in future. I'm going to check out new SE @ Boogies green machines as soon as possible. thanks.Jerry

Sudden Power Cut

Sudden power cuts on a steep hill with the Phantom X2 can be scary.

I have had continuing problems with the PhantomX2 bike's battery and it is still just under the two year warranty. Since it was a little over a year old, the battery suddenly lost power and has been sent back to Prodeco twice, once to check and another time to replace the split plastic case. The service department has sent fuses, replacement controller, new rack and wiring.

I fully charge the battery before riding.

After riding a distance of 9.5miles on a flat road, I get a power cut. The times and miles will vary each time I ride the bike. However the LED readout on the battery pack would read one green and one red light which I presume to be about half capacity left.

The specialists at the bike shop told me that the LED readout is not reliable. they did suggest that the battery may have a defect.

For the record I have fully documented the problems of this bike with the Repairs department at Prodeco but I fear that when the two year warranty runs out in November, Prodeco may not honor any repairs or replacement of the affected part(s) if any.

I would appreciate your suggestions? Battery drain?

Time to change to another brand?

boppinnbob, emerald and other owners,
since this thread is from 2011,
You have had your Prodeco s for more than 2 years, close to 3 years right now,
can you post your experiences?
long term reports are what really counts in my book, initial impression tests means little ,
so get 5000 miles on Prodeco and report here.
I am afraid chances are low to read 5000miles reviews on this forums , you need quality for that.

poshunl,
on quality ebike you will never experience sudden cut offs on steep hills, just reduction of power but never cut-offs.
On intelligent quality edrive like FALCO ebike drive /designed in USA/ battery cells are continuously monitored and if voltage sag sensed power is reduced.
Prodeco just uses off the shelf DD motor controller which do not communicate with battery electronics like on quality ebikes.

You are right. the thread goes back to 2011. I had previous Phantom X, but nearly two years ago I purchased a Phantom X2 that is still under warranty.

Here is an update from the recent past days:

October 11, 2014
Reason: Power cut
Temperature: 61F, wind 1mph
Location: East Shore bike path at Emeryville. Flat surface. No cars.
Started on fully charged battery (charged on same day)
9.5 miles distance travelled on full throttle/ no pedal assistance.
38 minutes total duration of cycling before sudden power cut.
The lights on the throttle and the battery case turned off.

After waiting for ten minutes I was able to turn the power indicator lights on.
The bike had 4 minutes of power but suddenly the power turned off.
Pressing the energy indicator on the battery showed two lights, red and green

Battery charged up time= 4hr 25min.
Location: East Shore bike path at Emeryville. Flat surface. No cars.
13 miles distance travelled plus some pedal assist.
45 minutes total duration of cycling before sudden power cut.
The lights on the throttle and the battery case turned off.

Time: 9.06pm. Battery charge up time= 3 hours 4 minutes . charger light turns from red to green. why does this take so long to charge?

I understand that charging the battery should take about 2 hours on this bike.

Does this mean that the battery is defective?

I have written to the service department at Prodeco several times since last May indicating the sudden power cuts but they have sent me a replacement rack, controller, fuses and the battery has been back to their place twice, for repair to the broken plastic casing and for examination. None of these parts solved the problem of sudden power cuts.
